Sore throat for a few weeks - what's going on?

I had tonsillitis a few weeks ago. Was prescribed penicillin which made it go away but it came back shortly after I stopped the antibiotics. Went to the drs again but gave me clarithromycin. The throat went away but a week after my throat got sore again. Now it's not as sore as the previous 2 times, I don't have a temperature but it is red and sore. Went to the drs to say I was worried that I keep getting a sore throat but she said yes my throat was a bit red and swollen but she wasn't worried and that it wasn't infected. I knew it wasn't infected but I'm worried its not going away and that I was worried I was a bit immune compromised. She then said why and I just said the fact my throat had been sore going on 4 weeks. Prior to that I had a cough I couldn't shift for weeks and needed n X-ray and stuff. Do u think am worrying unnecessarily?

Go back to the gp and request that a swab of the area to be done, find out what type of infection is occurring and get it treated, if it continues then ask that further investigations such as looking at areas in the throat that can not be seen without small mirror or camera. Are you having any other symptoms such as raised glands (around your neck, armpits, groin etc), headaches? If so tell your gp.

Drink plenty of water (a glass every hour), you may find Manuka honey with warm water and squeeze of lemon helps to soothe and help fight infection. Bee Propolis liquid gargled with warm water and drunk can help (as can gargling with warm vinegar with salt, that however needs to be spat out and not drunk). Taking herbs such as echinacea can help to strengthen a compromised immune system, as will extra vit c with zinc.

Hope that your throat gets better soon.
