Aimsmum...re: the copy of the CD...I would say be careful it's not personalised to you. Most hypnotherapists will do this, include the client's name, and other details, to make it more effective to the particular client but it also means it's no good to anyone else. For instance, if someone (the tape) is saying to Jane 'Ok, Mary, I'd like you to imagine yourself on a tropical beach' then Jane's subconscious will take no notice of it whatsoever. Does that make sense?

Aimsmum, just hold back on the copy still - I still haven't had a chance to get dh to look at it for me! He was home last night but so tired as he had only got in the previous night at 12:45 am and even then had to ring the police as we had some teenagers vandalising the speed camera outside our house! He gets really grumpy if I ask him to do anything technical for me on the computer (I think he thinks I should be able to do it for myself!) so I need to pick my moment carefully, but there should be some suitable moment during the weekend. I am really looking forward to hearing it!

Congratulations Aimsnum!
I tried hypnotherapy and unfortunately the man tried to plant false memories in my mind which he said had caused my phobia in the first place. Luckily for me i was not too far in a trance (if that's what you call it) to be fooled. But the whole episode upsets me even now five years or so on.
I am glad that it worked for you - it seems that your hypnotherapist used a totally different approach to mine> Mine was to find the root cause of the phobia by going back through past memories and apparently when you know why you are cured!
Emmy01 - sorry to hear there's another one of us out there. What you have written mirrors my life exactly! I have a ds who's 2 now and asked for anti-sickness medication for my labour. I didn't get it in the end as I gave birth very quickly but fortunately I didn't feel sick at all.

2mums · 09/08/2006 19:43

Hi, I'm new too. Glad to find others who understand this! Like Emmy01 I was scared to have children because of my fear, and later found that it got a bit easier. Even when DS caught a bug last winter, I was able to manage my panic somewhat and was quite chuffed that I didn't get sick. It helped that DP was not bothered by cleaning up.

Haven't been sick in nearly 30 years, so the fear is working in a strange way. But it affects what and where I eat (no take away, no curries, etc.), and sometimes where I go (no crowded shops in winter, so holiday shopping is difficult). My mum had it too, which probably explains it.

Will look into hypnotherapy. Thanks for the suggestions!

trotskymow · 09/08/2006 19:50

Aimsmum, that's brilliant!! I have a fear of others being sick in particular and am scared of DS getting sick - DH will have to deal, not sure what I'll do if he's not there...

How did you find the hypnotherapist?

sunchowder · 09/08/2006 20:03

Congrats Aimsmum! I too didn't even realize there was a name for this until Mumsnet....I don't mind looking or cleaning up vomit (have raised 3 children), but if it is a virus (stomach bug), I get hysterical inside and can't even bring myself to their rooms. Constantly washing hands, burning candles, opening windows--I am afraid to get ill in general (colds, etc.), but vomitting is my worst fear. It is so nice to hear there is hope for this. I used hypnotherapy to stop smoking about 16 years ago now and hadn't thought to go back for this. Thanks so much for taking the time to post.
