I have a hospital app tomorrow, it was booked about 6 weeks ago by my GP because I've been having trouble emptying my bladder. GP said it would be a scan but reading my appointment notes I'm now worried its an Endoscopy.

My notes say to drink a pint before I go, the app is in the Urology dept, but it says to contact the Endoscopy dept for more info. So does anyone know if this sounds like a scan or an endoscopy? I've been googling and worrying myself Angry

Sounds like a scan to me. You always need to drink water beforehand.

Phew Gumps I hope so!

What does the letter say your appointment is for, exactly?

devonshiredumpling · 05/12/2013 20:29

you might be having a cystoscopy where the medical staff get you to drink loads then scan your full bladder (to find out how much urine you have in your bladder) then ask you to pee and scanyou afterwards to see how much you have emptied .they might get you to come back for further tests depending on tomorrow. anyway good luck take care

shelldockley · 05/12/2013 20:29

It doesn't, it just says I have an appointment at the Urology dept Hmm

It could be urodynamics testing, where they test how much fluid your bladder can hold, and how well you pass urine.

shelldockley · 05/12/2013 20:31

Thankyou devinshiredumpling, that sounds like what it should, I hope so

What's that Macca?

Sorry, pressed too soon! It's not too horrible, though you do have a catheter tube type thing up your urethra and another probe up your bum Shock. Nothing to worry about. I had it for urinary incontinence. Good luck tomorrow.

CuntWagon · 05/12/2013 20:33

The test Devonshire describes isn't a cystoscopy. That is a look in the bladder using a camera into the urethra. It sounds like a scan or flow dynamics, a cystoscopy would be unlikely to be a first investigation.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 05/12/2013 20:35

I'm not sure how to link properly, sorry.

shelldockley · 05/12/2013 20:37

Really don't fancy the camera, how does it fit?!Blush

If it's urodynamics it would be normal to ask you to keep a drinking/weeing record for a couple of days beforehand. Maybe make a few notes about your normal weeing/drinking habits to take with you.

shelldockley · 05/12/2013 20:45

That's a good idea I'll do that thanks

Don't worry,it won't be a camera. That is done under general (or in some hospitals local) anaesthetic. I have had several!
