hi all i have piles but am getting concerned as they are bleeding, quite a lot when i go to the loo the doc gave me proctosedyl ointment wich i have been using for a few days the lump seems to have shrunk but the bleeding seem to be getting worse but the doc wanted to examine me and i didnt let him should i have? just wondered if anyone has and advice thanks xx ( sorry to be so graphic!)

I would let him examine you - if they are bleeding, then you should make an apt with an emergency dr. Try calling NHS Direct - always good to see what they have to say and get a 2nd opinion. You poor thing, every sympathy to you!! May I suggest sitting on a child's inflatable ring for comfort - Available from all good £1 shops!!

Yes, you should have let him examine you. He can't give you the proper diagnosis or treatment if you won't let him.

Piles do bleed quite often, so that isn't necessarily a cause for concern. But it may not be piles that's causing the bleeding - you need to get it checked out in case it's something else. It's probably not, but you need to get it looked at.

Go back to the GP, and this time let him examine you - bleeding from the bottom should always be checked out properly.

My aunt died last year due to bowel cancer. My mum was told by her gp to have a colonoscopy to rule out the same condition as it is much more treatable if it is caught earlier. She ignored him for a whole year because she diddn't want anyone looking up her bottom! FFS!

I eventually told her that the humilition she would suffer if she did have bowel cancer was 100 time worse than a tiny camera up your rectum when you are out of it on drugs. She had it last week and she is absolutely fine, thank god.

Look the thing is, don't worry about it just do it, it is really likely to be nothing but in the highly unlikely event that there is something wrong it is always better to get it sorted sooner rather than later.
