Had a gin to calm my nerves before surgery tomorrow. Now thinking I shouldn't have...?

Having a short op tomorrow, but under general anaesthetic. I am nervous about it so was having a gin and tonic to calm me down a little. However now I'm realising I maybe shouldn't have? Surgery is afternoon tomorrow, and I finished the gin at approx 4.50pm. One gin, not a large measure.

What are you worried about? Your op is tomorrow and you had a drink today. You're not already on nil by mouth are you?

Kotinka, thank you. And thanks for the best wishes too.

Shatner, um, not being a professional surgical patient, I had no idea if drinking alcohol might affect the anaesthetic or procedure in any way. I don't believe pre-surgery fasting etc is actually the issue here. I'm allowed to drink and eat till 6hrs before surgery, but I don't think the surgeons would want me drinking gin then. But your - ahem - reassuring tone has gently eased my concerns.

I bet the anaesthetist will have been drinking gin tonight! Grin

Aaargh! That's equally reassuring! !

Sorry! Hope the op went OK and that you're enjoying a well earned 'beverage'.
