I am BRCA2, but my cousin came back -ve. My dad and younger sis have just been tested.
It's DS1's 6th birthday today, hard to believe I've got a 6 yr old!

weebarra · 23/12/2013 07:48

And wren, very best for your op today! Thinking of us all at this time of year xx

Trice enjoy the panto !

Weebarra hope ds has a lovely birthday

Was thinking of taking dd for a mooch around town today but not sure now with the wind and wig combination !

malteserzz · 23/12/2013 08:14

Tiny I'm recovering well from my op thank you, results are on 30 th december Hmm

Tiny100 · 23/12/2013 10:16

Morning All!

Trice - Enjoy the panto - being over enthusiastic is what panto is all about, no point in going otherwise. Grin I know what you mean about trying to find a smoking gun - I am desperate to find one and am convinced that there is a link with my 'heritage'.

Happy 6th Birthday to your not so LO Wee!

Good Luck with getting that last bit of shopping Foo, it never seems to end does it? There always seems to be something else left to get, (or that could just be me.)

Malt - Glad you are recovering well. We're all rooting for you and those results.

I am having a lazy morning, or as much of a lazy morning as you can have looking after an excited three year old! (OH and my Mum have gone food shopping!)

OP posts:
Tiny100 · 23/12/2013 10:19

BTW Wee, I am finding it a great psychological boost to be halfway through chemo.

Gigondas · 23/12/2013 11:44

Wren good luck today.
Off for chemo. Mini gig managed to open of big gigs presents and both kids climbing walls with excitement . Am quite glad to be out of the house.

Any news goodness? And how was the panto trice? Waves to everyone else.

GoodnessKnows · 23/12/2013 12:39

Just spoken to secretary of consultant. Apparently results likely to be through n discussed on jan 3rd. If before, they'll let me know. :( doesn't mean they'll let me know that day. More likely to be calling me day after that once they've decided on the 'care plan'. This feels like a 'couldn't care a less-plan' but it's cos of Christmas.
Shit isn't it.
Happy 2014.
On the plus side, this means that I can enjoy the festivities and make the most if the time we have off together as a family. Feel like I should go rock climbing and Zumba dancing, scuba diving, etc. before the shit hits the fan.
On the ogre hand, no idea whether I could damage / aggravate 'things' since nobody has told me or spoken to me since the news was first delivered.

malteserzz · 23/12/2013 15:04

Goodness that is a pain the waiting is awful Hmm try and do your best to enjoy Christmas and don't let your mind run away with you, easier said than done !

Gigs good luck for chemo, naughty mini gigs Grin

I've been into town shopping with dd and thankfully no wig and wind disasters !

GoodnessKnows · 23/12/2013 15:48

Will do. It's actually a blessing to have Christmas as a lovely distraction.
Good luck with the chemo. Yup, windy-wig-weather disasters are likely. Snood may be helpful?

Gigondas · 23/12/2013 16:38

Oh goodness - horrid to wait but trust me if they were really worried you would know. I was banged up kept in hospital the same day with a neck collar (and left to what dh saw fit to bring into hospital). So I would Zumba away... On plus side for you, they managed to operate ok on me so please take heart from that. So I would enjoy christmas.

Chemo'ing away in my cold cap -dh apparently repaired the wrapping but says weather bad (I can't see here).

Tiny100 · 23/12/2013 16:53

Can anyone help? I have a rancid unpleasant taste in my mouth. I assume as a result of chemo. What can I do to get rid of it?

{{{Hugs}}} Goodness - I know you have probably heard this a hundred times, but the waiting is the worst part.

Good Luck with the chemo Gigs, hope you recover okay for Xmas.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 23/12/2013 17:22

Boiled sweets (sherbet lemons was one suggestion), fizzy water and mouthwash any use tiny?

Will be tired but hopefully can still enjoy Xmas as usually takes few days for tax truck to hit properly.

Tiny100 · 23/12/2013 20:10

Cheers Thanks Gigs!

OP posts:
GoodnessKnows · 23/12/2013 21:20

Thanks girls. Now that I have to wait for longer, I hope that I'll relax a bit. I've been all over the place - crying when I've forgotten it buy people an Xmas present or write a kids' party 'thank you letter'. Now, it all feels like a dream I've had (nightmare) that's haunting me - rather than reality.
I think that waiting is the worst, like hearing the Jaws 'de-da, de-da, de-da' music, over n over again.

GoodnessKnows · 23/12/2013 21:22

Anyway, pressies wrapped (6 year old pretended not to see his when my parents dropped him home), self-assessment almost there... Christmas is a-coming... and I love it! Grin

GoodnessKnows · 23/12/2013 21:26

Yay... I managed to do a Grin. No stopping me now... Here goes my first attempt at a link:

GoodnessKnows · 23/12/2013 21:28

Gig, what did you have done? I laughed at your recollection of depending on what your DH brought you. I can only imagine what I'd (not) get. Gonna have to relinquish sine of my fussiness control

Gigondas · 23/12/2013 21:51

Oh the mismatched pyjamas, tee shirt I keep for painting - you get the ideaGrin. When I go in I pack little bags of stuff so I can just pack light and then can take home washing.

First op was to remove tumour that had got round about 40% of my spine at neck and made it unstable.

Hence collar needed as were concerned it was unstable (never got proper explanation or apology why they didn't bother to scan for months despite complaints of neck/shoulder pain but that is story of my disease as was same with original lump. Heigh ho- nothing can do now.)

They took out tumour and put a metal cage and pins in to sure up spine.it was a big long op and I was in for a long while (10 days). Also was nerve damage which I was warned of but that was coS tumour big (not like yours) with loads of symptoms. Still good it was done .

Second op was on lower spine to remove pressure where it had collapsed after chemo/radio killed tumor. Pain relief after was miraculous tho am very stiff in lower back and can't lift big loads . I was in for a week.

I know it sounds drastic but both my ops were well worth doing and actually ended up in less than they thought both times. If you are at rnoh I would feel very reassured that you Have the gold standard Treatment. But it's also natural to cry and worry - I know I did.

GoodnessKnows · 23/12/2013 22:30

My gd. Poor you. One of those would be enough to say 'I've got the badge'. But TWO! Enough already!
Hope you are ok now. Sounds like you are left with reminders of how blummin' lucky you've been.
I think I'll make bags for him to select stuff from. The day following my meeting with the consultants and surgeon, I packed a bag of... make up (went and splurged on Dior and ordered Blinc mascara as is superduper waterproof), new knickers, fluffy jumper and slippers (all sainsburys).

I understand how you feel about the medics missing it! My mum took me to the GP when I was a little girl. Doc told her that the bump at the base of my spine was "Wgere our tails used to be. Some people have a small bump there as a leftover part of evolution." Go figure!
DM then took me to the British School of Osteopathy when I complained of back ache (was making it up to skip games). They told me it was "hairs on the bone). I was 14. But I knew that that sounded like a crock of shit.
Turns out I was probably right. Mind you, tumours can consist, partly, of hair. So, in that sense, they may be right. Lol

Ledkr · 24/12/2013 00:00

Hello all.
goodness it does seem positive with regards to it being benign doesn't it?
I'm not sure about the Xmas thing tbh, I had my pre op appointment today and it was busy and they were expecting it to be busy tomorrow and ops only stopped for 25th and 26th so in sure you'd be in if they felt it necessary.
My op will be anytime soon. I said not the week of the 20th as both dds birthdays and dd1 is in panto all week.
She said it might be before!
Only a day case and keyhole to remove my organs, how weird.
Has anyone else here had their ovaries and fallopian tubes removed? What to expect?
I'm having some hrt, does it start straight away?
How did you find it psychologically?
So many questions.

BetsyBoop · 24/12/2013 07:27

Goodness if they thought they needed to do something quickly, Christmas wouldn't get in the way don't worry...you'd be in there quicker than a quick thing! I know I found it hard as I wanted everything to happen instantly, but treatment has to be planned and in my case involved biopsies, scans, MRI, x-ray etc., all of which have to be arranged, so it was about a month from first appointment to getting going. From the medical point of view whatever it is has been there for months/years so a few more days won't make a difference, hard for us to wait patiently though when we're on tenterhooks!

Lekr - I've had keyhole surgery on my Fallopian tubes, so I can have a stab at some of you questions. I felt very bloated after and the pain in my shoulders was the worst bit at first (trapped wind, peppermint helps). The soreness in my tummy kicked in a few days later - I had some interesting bruises where the sticks went in and it felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach (not that anyone ever as, so I'm guessing!) Bending over (eg putting shoes on) was the worst bit. Overall pretty good though, and a much quicker recovery without a big abdominal scar. (Have also had two c/s)

Wren hope your surgery went well yesterday

A gentle to everyone doing chemo over the festive season.

festive holly branch to everyone else

Well I'm off for my rads planning appointment later. My very first tattoo ever as a present on Christmas Eve, how lovely Grin A bit of food prep to do first, then the crib service later :).

GoodnessKnows · 24/12/2013 07:34

So when would you be having that little lot done? Any day from the 28th? Have had keyhole surgery on one ovary and would highly recommend peppermint tea to help to alleviate gas afterwards. Hurts before it's expelled and takes a good couple of days. Haven't experience of the rest. How do you feel about it? Do they offer counselling? Not suggesting that you need it, but many people find it helpful and I did find it a haven while going through molar pregnancy.
I'm really hoping that my tumour is benign. I've scarcely let myself consider that it isn't. It's the op I'm worried about (intricate in nerve sheaths and in my spinal canal. I don't mean to be flippant. I'm not. I'm just overwhelmed with fear about that - so couldn't even concede that there might be 'more to it'.
However, many people on here have told me that they/ their brother/ Aunt's Friebd has had spinal surgery on a tricky tumour / neck and lived to tell the take - with perfect health and all faculties in tact (after a few difficult months and some spinal fluid leakage - go figure!).
That's given me great comfort. Just very confusing to be rushed in and then for The Big Quiet. I'm loving the Christmas festivities and looking forward to taking my 6 year old to Santa's Grotto today. Can't face queuing. Would it be terrible to pull the tumour-card (out of his earshot)? Lol

GoodnessKnows · 24/12/2013 07:34

Gotta be some perks!
