General anaesthetic - how long until you feel back to normal?

I'm having a short op next month (1hr max) - how long will it take afterwards until I feel back to normal?

I'm expecting to be tired the next day or two. Also I have been sick after anaesthetics in the past (only once as an adult but a more serious op so can't remember how I felt generally apart from sore) - is there something I can take to stop that happening?

Just having a nervous moment Blush

I had the same a couple of weeks ago. i hadn't had a GA since my teens and was a bit dismissive. My op was in the afternoon. I tried to get out of bed in the early evening and had a complete white out - was sick and nauseous for hours - i was quite surprised. Don't ry and get up too early. I was fine to go home the next day but took and entire week of work rather than the 2 days and weekend planned which is really not like me (as am self employed so only get paid for days I work haha) - I was surprised how much it wiped me out and how tired I was. Pretty much back to normal after a week though.

I too have been surprised how much I was 'wiped out' by a GA. I'd presumed once I came round I'd be fine, but I felt 'drained' I think is the word for a couple of weeks afterwards.

Thanks! I have a couple of weeks off work anyway because the op requires rest afterwards and I have an active job.
I will line up some food for the first few days then in case I can't be bothered don't feel like cookingSmile

I think everyone is different with these things!

Had a couple of short anaesthetics (1 or 2 hours) and was absolutely fine afterwards bar having a sore throat. Was eating my lunch pretty much as soon as I was back on the ward and went home that evening.

Recently had a 6 hour anaesthetic and that was definitely tougher in that it did wipe me out for a few days if not weeks afterwards (although that could well be the surgery itself). I was OK though and was able to have visitors that same evening.

Wasn't sick ever with anaesthetics but was told beforehand that if I did feel queasy at any point to say so and they would give me something for it, likewise with pain!

Hope it goes well!

I've had one recently and felt wiped out for the best part of 2 weeks.
