Pain in my jaw and ear...dentist puzzled

For the last week or so I have found it very difficult to open my mouth any distance, with pain in my jaw, and a full feeling in my ear. Eating is really quite difficult and not pleasant. My dentist had a look and feel but I have no tooth tenderness, no facial or gland swelling, and apart from a related achey head I feel ok. I have never been a teeth grinder and am not especially stressed at the mo so that isn't a likely cause. Anyone had any similar symptoms and if so, what was it and how did you shift it?

I have had something similar a few times, iritation of the meniscus of the jaw bone. A visit to an osteopath sorted it out.
