I've had a pain in my right calf muscle for nearly two weeks now. I went to the GP a week and a half ago and he told me that as it had only been a few days to go home and take Ibuprofen and paracetamol. If these didn't help I was to go back and see him.
I went back to the GP this afternoon as the pain was still there. They ended up sending me to the local hospital to the DVT (deep vein thrombosis) clinic as a precaution.
I had to have a blood test taken (this was at 4.30pm) and was told to go back at 6pm for the results. They thought it was unlikely that it would be a clot as I didn't have any other symptoms.
Went back at 6pm and was told that the results were slightly abnormal and that they would like to do a scan tomorrow (if an appointment is available). I had to have an injection in my stomach to stop my blood clotting. They are going to phone me tomorrow to let me know if there is a scan appointment available. If there isn't then I will have to go back in tomorrow for another injection in my stomach in the hope that they will get me in for a scan on Friday.
I am so worried. I can't believe all this has happened so quickly today.
It's been a bad, bad day today. DD1 was off school having been sick three times this morning. Washing machine packed up. I have a swollen left eye due to a sty which doctor has given me eye drops for. [sad}
Sat here munching on a box of roses which I bought myself for being brave with the injection.

how did the scan go?

sparklerswollenbruisedandfedup · 17/07/2006 15:46

Scan tomorrow afternoon. Had final (hopefully) injection of Clexane this afternoon. Stomach is in a terrible mess - nurse even said it was the worst she'd seen all day . Advised me to get some Arnica cream from chemist for the bruising.
Just waiting to see what tomorrow tells.

SpaceCadet · 17/07/2006 15:48

Hope scan goes well. Sorry I didn't see this thread before I could have comisarated about the clexane with you, stings doesn't it, and those horrible little bruises it leaves on your tummy. I'm on warfarin now which is a pain (to take and be checked) got to take it for another 3mths then wait 6 weeks and have the test to see if I have a clotting disorder I think?

sparklerswollenbruisedandfedup · 18/07/2006 14:05

Thanks Xena.
Sorry to hear that you all have these problems. It's actually more common than I realised.
Just having a spot of lunch then off to the hospital in about half an hour.

whoopsfallenoveragain · 18/07/2006 14:24

Good luck hope it goes well!
Has been a good reason to have to pop on here today!

sparklerswollenbruisedandfedup · 18/07/2006 18:28

Scan was fine - I am so relieved. They have discharged me. Just told me to take paracetamol for the pain and to go back to GP if it doesn't clear up.

SpaceCadet · 18/07/2006 19:05

yay!, i bet you let out a big sigh of relief, do you they have any idea what the pain is.

Xena · 18/07/2006 20:11

great sparkler, bet your thought was 'yeah no more injections'!

sparklerswollenbruisedandfedup · 18/07/2006 21:13

They think it's possibly muscular. Advised I take Paracetamol again and go back to GP if problems. I still have slight discomfort but no where near as bad as last couple of weeks.
