Calling any dentist who is around!

I have just given myself a scare and need reassurance / advice.

While I was flossing my molars just now the floss caught on something and a shard of something tooth coloured came off. Is it possible to rip enamel off in this way? I think at some point I've had some sort of coating painted on there, I had a bit of a receding gum and some of the (whatever the layer below is called) was getting exposed and it was very sensitive to cold. I think my teeth are in fairly good shape - i have learnt the error of my ways since the receding gum problem, hence the flossing. It didn't hurt - and it doesn't hurt now, but I can feel where the stuff broke off. Please tell me it was just this coating!

I won't be able to get to the dentist for a couple of days I suspect as my NHS one is closed and I will have to find a private alternative. Should I be worried?
