OMG Just counted up how much dh has drunk in last 10 days....

And its 112.763 units (used online units calculator) in real terms in the last 10 days he has drunk;

20 bottles of beer
7 bottles of wine
6 cans of beer

I think he has a problem, but if I say anything he stops drinking for a day and then just drinks.

He's not an offensive drunk his eyes just glaze over, and he snores all night!!

Anyway, do you think he has a problem?

well - is that how much he drinks normally?? Or has he just been on the booze a lot more while the Football (and hot weather) has been on??

deegward · 10/07/2006 14:22

No that's normal, its just I have started to look in the recycling, and worked out how much it actually was!

My dp drinks at least 3-4 pints a night then all weekend from Friday night through til Sunday evening, I think he has a problem but like your dh if I say anything he just skips the pub for one day and then carries on. That said, all his friends are the same so they think it's 'normal' does your dh drink with friends or alone?

deegward · 10/07/2006 14:28

No alone, sitting in house with me and my Diet Coke!

So maybe all men just drink too much, and I should get a life!

thats a lot
we drink a lot and on a decent week, drinking every night dp would tot up either 3 cans of stella 500mmls or half a bottle of wine
So weekly thats
1 bottle wine
15 cans beer
but we have at least 2 dry days now.
It does seem a lot tbh deeg

Mascaraohara · 10/07/2006 14:31

No, I think he has a problem - sorry. I think my dp drinks a lot/too much but he uses the excuse that it's normal - everyone does it (I know they don't but everyone that he knows does). I think to be drinking that much at home is a lot if it is constant.

katierocket · 10/07/2006 14:38

I think that is a lot. It's really easy to get into a pattern of heavy drinking without really realising.

NotQuiteCockney · 10/07/2006 14:50

How many units is meant to be the maximum for a man? That does seem like a lot to me. Any chance anyone else's empties have got in there (guests etc), or that it's recycling for 20 days, not ten?

moosh · 10/07/2006 15:00

I think my dp has a problem too. He doesn't drink as much as that but he can have between 30-50 units a week and you really notice it when you are recycling. He isn't abusive but it annoys me. He phoned from work today saying he was going t-total this week,(think he feels alittle rough today) I just said "Mmmm" because I know he probably won't. He will probably not drink for a few days then he'll come on Wed with probably twice as many cans. I think he knows that sometimes he does indulge but whether he'll do anything about it I don't know, his dad was the same and his dad doesn't drink now but that took over 50 yrs probably for him to realise that he should put his health first.
It must be a man thing

Piffle · 10/07/2006 15:25

no its not just a man thing moosh I am just as bad as my dp infact at times worse

moondog · 10/07/2006 15:49

Can you not point out that there are certain disadvantages to this in the ahem....waistline,breath,complexion,bowel and bedroom department???

Caligula · 10/07/2006 15:58

Yep he has a problem

Both in terms of actual units drunk and in terms of your concern about it. I've always been of the school of thought that says if one party in a relationship thinks there's a problem, then there's a problem.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/07/2006 15:59

My dh is going teetotal for a month. He knows he's had far too much during the World Cup - he has more than the recommended units most weeks anyway.

I've bet him £50 quid - my money's safe I think.
