Best way to deal with sore runny nose?

DS (nearly 18 months) has had a very runny nose for several days now. It's getting quite red and raw and it obviously hurts him to have it wiped -- but he's still keeping up the industrial-volume snot production.

Are there any cunning mummy tricks for dealing with this or do we all just have to suffer through it?

bit of vaseline around the bit that gets wiped alot will reduce friction and stop it getting sorer.
kleenex tissues with balsam in are v soft - best to use the v softest for oft-repeated wiping.

Maybe smear a little vaseline (sp?) on his nose in between, it will mean putting it on alot but will stop his nose getting chapped and dried out so much other than that i am not sure, hopefully someone else will have another idea.

vaseline also keeps the wet snot off the skin. best to start before it gets too red. maybe a more healing (but gentle, not stingy) cream if already sore, till it gets a bit less raw, then the vaseline.

If you manage to catch it before it gets sore, agree Vaseline or similar is the way to go (I use WonderBalm from the Boots fruit range because it smells nice)
Once it's sore, Sudacrem helps heal - if you think about it is a bit similar to nappy rash!

And get in some own-brand balm tissues - cheaper than Kleenex but just as soft.
