I saw a friend and her dd for the first time in a year on Friday night and her dd is a month younger than my ds, not 2.9. The look of shock must have registered on my face when I saw her dd because the first thing she said was 'I know what you're thinking, Lucy's big for her age' and she was right. I'm 5'7" and Lucy came up to my breast height!!!

Apparently when when my friend was in labour Lucy had a reaction to antibodies in her blood and had to have growth hormones to counteract it, but now they think they might have overdone it! No s**t sherlock! I'm worried about the implications for her health - surely it can't be good for a two and a half year old toddler to be as tall as an eight year old? How do her bones cope and how will they develop?? Has anyone else seen this?

Poor girl! There is a serious condition 'giantism'- although i'm sure its got a more pc name. its shocking that this could b brought on by drugs!

When you look at her you think she's a strapping eight year old until she talks, then she sounds like she has a development problem because she has the speech of a two and a half year old! It's very odd! I feel very sorry for her and her mum. She must get judged an awful lot, things like 'what's that child still doing in a pushchair?' etc, etc.

not as extreme, but my 3yr old dd is the size of a 6year old. mentally she is advance for her age, and has intelligence of a 5yr+, but physically and socially she is slightly behind her real age. which leads to no end of problems coupled with her height.

Does she have any problems with calcium deficiency or anaemia??

nope, she has low muscle tone, and is having her hearing checed next week as she has a speech delay.
