Has anyone had success with the mirena coil after problems with Cerazette?

After loads of irregular bleeding and my latest period lasting 16 days and showing no signs of going away or getting any lighter the doctor has suggested I have the mirena coil.

Having had horrendous periods and problems with the copper coil I am very reluctant to have another coil fitted. Can anyone tell me if they have had any success with the coil after problems with Cerazette (or anyone who has had similar problems!)

Thanks

How long have you been on cezarette?
I only had bleeding for the first couple of months
Now I haven't had a period for 2 years! Best thing I ever did was to go on it :)

Been on it 8 months this time. Was on it before for 2 months when I fell pregnant with DD :)

Hi ladies I have had an absolute nightmare on cerazette too (constant bleeding, thrush, moodiness.. the list is endless!) and am too considering getting the mirena coil fitted. I would love to hear whether anyone else has changed from cerazette to mirena and seen positive improvements.

Hopefully we can get ourselves sorted lels99 :) x

Hmm, similar dilemma here. Awful time on cerazette (I gave it a year - had been fine on it in between DCs) then tried micronor. Still lots of problems so am having a coil. Still have a week to decide on copper or mirena though .

Ahh sorry to hear that Judyandherdreamofhorses - keep us posted on what you decide to do and how it goes :) ... Good luck! x

I tried cerazette after DC1. Was horrible, neverending light bleeding forever.

After DC2 I got a mirena. Brilliant.

Mirena is very different from a copper coil - works in a totally different way, so should not really be compared even though they both go in the same place Wink.

Lots of women have less bleeding problems/no bleeding at all on Mirena. It's the treatment of choice for most 'dysfunctional uterine bleeding' i.e. no cause found. It's v common in women in their 30s and 40s.

Give it a go - it's v easy to remove if you don't like it.

I had a merina fitted after getting migraines and breakthrough bleeding and migraines on cerazette. It didn't work for me. Felt generally ok on it to start with and no bleeding at all which was great but then got ovarian cyst and got really down and depressed so had it whipped out. I know lots of people who have no problems at all with merina so it's totally a personal thing but I definitely don't think it agreed with me. Now have a copper coil which initially meant heavier periods but settled down to normal now.

I've been on Cerazette 3 months and have bled constantly, sometimes quite heavily. Could I be anemic? Am beginning to feel very tired.
