Hi all.
Hoping for words of wisdom as seem to be going round in circles.
6 weeks ago I started having alot of lower back pain and side pain, running hot and cold, feeling sick and tired and needed the loo alot.
Was given a urine sample and showed blood in urine. Was put on a course of antibiotics for a UTI.
5 days later was even worse so went back to see another GP at my surgery, was given another urine sample and again lots of blood and this time was told it was probably a kidney infection and not UTI and given another course of antibiotics, took the full course of those and although the flu type symptoms passed the back and side pain remained (and worsened) and so I went back to the gp again. Saw yet another GP and another urine sample was done which again showed blood in urine and was told by this GP that it was probably kidney stones and was referred for a CT scan at the hospital and given pain killers.
Been in agony this week and the flu symptoms came back so off to the GP again, luckily managed to see one of the (3) GP's I had already seen who was the one that was convinced it was kidney stones, she managed to chase up the scan result which showed no stones and now wants to run further tests. She did another urine sample there and yet again blood in my urine.
I am now on my 3rd course of antibiotics (a 10 day course) and have to go back for blood tests and more urine samples this week.
So for over 6 weeks I've had blood in my urine, side pain and back pain, shivers and on / off flu symptoms....
What on earth could this be???
Thanks.

Have they found bacteria in your urine? I assume they have, given that you've been prescribed antibiotics.

Have they checked which strain of bacteria? Made sure you've been given the right antibiotics.

Are you providing a urine sample once you've finished the antibiotics to make sure it's clear?

Sounds like you just need a longer course of tablets.

This new course of antbiotics will be for 10 days and I need to give another urine sample on Wednesday aswell as blood tests.

Sounds dreadful op.

I have had cystitis badly many times, and felt so awful very quickly. However it cleared up just as quickly with anti biotics.

Trimethoprim are what I have always had. Have you had those?

Hope you are soon feeling better.

Yes Ive had those, that was the 2nd set of antib's and now I am on (as of yesterday) Ciprofloaxin.

Here's to hoping they do the trick then.
