Bad flare up of eczema and feeling cold.

I've had a bad flare up of eczema especially on my arms, it's very red, hot and weepy. I'm also feeling cold a lot, my feet and hands seem to be like permanent blocks of ice, only since my eczema has flared up. Does that sound right to you?

I am not sure if you are a long time sufferer of eczema or this has suddenly started but I can relate to what you are saying- Yes I too get cold and shivery when I am bad.It is a miserable condition and I hope you can get on top of it and get some relief.Itch and the dreaded weeping is miserable.

Yes I've had eczema for years. Just not had a bad flare for a while. I'm going to the GP tomorrow because it might be infected as it's a bit smelly as well as wet and weepy. Typically I've run out of most of my creams and bath stuff because its been good for so long. Sounds like the feeling cold is normal with it, I'd just forgotten.

Saw my GP this morning. She was pretty horrified at how bad it looks. Got ten days of antibiotics and she did a swab just to make sure they are going to be the right ones. Got hydrocortisone for my face, betnovate for my arms and legs, oilatum for the bath, double base to get washed with, aveeno for a 'light' cream, 50/50 ointment for a greasy moisturiser and some tubifast bandage thank goodness for prescription pre-payment certificates!

That is good to hear.My experience of GP's around eczema was a complete waste of time but I am thankfully under a wonderful specialist now and am enjoying a good skin time at the moment!Just be careful of Aveeno, I got an awful reaction to it.People differ thou and I seem to be allergic to every cream ever made with:((Hope you start improving soon.People do not realise that a bad flare up of eczema can be just so sickening and tiring.Take care

Thanks seoda. I was quite impressed with her knowledge of eczema and she explained the treatments very well. I know most of them anyway having had them umpteen times before, but she didn't know that because it's the first time I've been to my new GP with a flare up since we moved house. She gave me really good quantities of emollients too, not a piddly 100gram tub of cream like some have in the past. She said she wants to see me again in a couple of weeks to see if it's settling. So a good GP. I've had them before who really were useless. I've been trying my hardest not to scratch, even though it's driving me insane. You are right about people not realising how bad and unwell it can make you feel, they think it's 'just a rash'. Yes a 'rash' that can put you in hospital. Glad to hear your skin is good at the moment , hope it stays that way for a good while for you.

She is obviously good that she did a swab and wants to set you on the right path.I must try the double base as a wash too.Currently I am using Oilatum but strangely this week I am starting to go slightly itchy and red while using it.There is always something.Poor you, antibiotics should clear infection and I take daily antihistamines for itch which appear to be working.I am afraid to miss a dose as that itch scratch cycle is nasty to snap out of!Agree with you people do not realise a bad skin flare up can lead to an unwelcome hospital visit.

What antihistamines are you taking if you don't mind me asking? Sounds like you need to change your bath emollient. I find the same as you I can use one for a while then need to change it. We should have a rolling prescription of four or five different ones and have a different one every month to stop it becoming ineffective or start reacting to it. The doublebase is quite good, but can sting a bit. I quite like the 50/50 yes it's greasy but it's soft and easy to rub in.

I am taking telfast max dose.That is a very good point about changing to a different product but as I have severe allergies to parabens etc I just find it impossible to find something suitable.Am disappointed this week with Oilatum as I am good at the moment and when I was bad it didn't cause a reaction.(strange) It is good to compare products as it is all trial and error.What can you use in bath?

Thanks will ask about the Telfast, I take it for hayfever but not at the maximum dose. I find I can use pretty much any bath emollient without reacting to it. Can you use Epaderm? It's an ointment so might not have parabens in it. You can 'melt' some in a bit of hot water then add it to the bath to use as your bath emollient and you can get washed with it. It is fairly greasy but I've found its quite good especially when my eczema is really dry.

I mean the Epaderm ointment not the cream.

So off I go now to look for epaderm ointment.Maybe I will try diprobase tonight and see how that goes.Hope you have improved today

You can buy Epaderm from a pharmacy, but I think it is cheaper to get on prescription. It certainly is for me as I buy a pre-payment certificate, hate to think how much it would cost me a year if I didn't.
It has improved a bit today thanks, I'm just putting on my emollient lots and lots, a bit of the heat has gone out of it, only my feet feel cold today rather than my legs from knees down! Hope you find something that keeps helping yours.

I've recently started develop eczema about 6-8 months ago and it's been a living nightmare for me...I've had the extreme itch to shedding of skin like I'm in a blizzard eyes swollen to the point I can barely open my eyes, this slimy stuff always falls into my pupil and irritate it so bad, skin turns kinda white and I get this oils substance coming out from hands and almost my whole body and when it drys it feels like my face tighten up l, recently I had this feeling like my skin is gong down my throat and ears and I notice the inside of my nostril has this white skin that falls off and that's the cause of the throat whixh also has this clear liquid in my throat nose and ears... I'm in so much pain from the touch of anything when my flare up hits the 3-4 days in.... There's lots more things but this is all I can remember for now

Eczema on my entire body causing me to lose big patches of skin in my scalp and everywhere!!!!!!

And sorry didn't deserve the oily substance to well it's like an oil like thing that seems to come out first before the itch and the skin shedding and after a while I think my skin drys and it makes my face throat and whole body feel so dry and tighten up sometime cause me to cough so much and constant feeling of stuff in my throat and when coughing mucus and this slimy clear liquid comes out and I can see skin debris in it which causing me breathing problem and slow breathing so I have to use a inhaler now
I have scars everywhere on my face to scalp to entire body every flare up that passes

Go the the emergency room as soon as possible. You may be suffering from Sepsis, where the scratching causes bacteria to enter the body, with body overreacting trying to fight it. Sepsis is life-threatening.

I am in my late 30s, never recall having eczema, had reaction getting worst over two weeks before being checked. I suspect I had mild eczema for years, but after being sick with cold for a few weeks and taking very hot shower my skin thinned and I was more susceptible. I have also been severely stressed and scratching myself, which also thinned my skin and most of the leaking of fluid is where I have previously scratched, even though I don't scratch there now.

The areas scratched can get infected. I changed cloths at least once a day and keep as much covered as possible. The face is hard to cover so I keep my distance. I previously used ACV and mouthwash but they made things much worst, because ACV is an acid and mouthwash has alcohol.

I need to shower because of the liquid draining, I can't stand it, so I shower every other day in warm water (as cold as I can tolerate), no soup or anything, and nothing added after shower. Tapping towel to dry and if it is very hot outside I may not need a towel and let it dry.
