Will be watching this too. DS (2.4yrs) has just been referred for a tonsillectomy. Have spoken to our GP who assured me that op is pretty uncompleted. What's vcjd?

GarfieldsGirl · 07/07/2006 21:39

I have to say I'm very surprised that they'd do the op as day surgery. I had tonsilectomy about 4 yrs ago. Begged for day surgery, but was told that it is NEVER done as day surgery because of risks of bleeding etc. I eventually had it done privately as waitung list was v. long, and they said exactly the same.

Was a bit nervous about posting as don't want to cause any more worry than you obviously already will have.

Things may have changed in a few years, but I would have a good chat with dr and double check everything.

Best wishes to your LO

vcjd=Mad cow disease, transmittable,in theory, through tonsillectomy surgery as the "prion"collects in the glands important to the immune system.nno longer using disposable instruments due to this risk......cost?!

Just because it is booked as day surgery does not mean your LO will be kicked out at 5pm.They will keep him in if there is any cause for concern.
