Strep A infection - is this behind everything?

Right, over the last four months I have been really ill three times - high fever, sweats, exhaution - really, really crap. Can't remember ever having such a run of ill health. Would have to go back to before DS to think of even one time of feeling this rough. Anyhow, blood tests this time have shown up a Strep A infection. (This time and last ny throat was incredibly sore for four days and tonsils looked possessed.) Am now on amoxicillin for ten days - large dose - to try and knock the infection out. But even though throat now feels more or less ok, I am still poleaxed by whatever is going on. Surely this can't just be strep throat? Or do you really feel this foul with it?

the antibs are probably knocking you for six - they can do that

step A infections can be really nasty - poor ds had one and he too was on antibs for 10 days (whopping dose), got covered in a massive red rash and was not himself for weeks and he is never ill poor chap

take care of yourself and look after your tum with all those antibs

did they check for glandular fever in your blood tests?

yes - haven't got gf, thankfully. Just amazed at how exhausted I feel, even though I don't actually have fever or sore throat any longer.

This is the third time since Feb or March that I have been like this and it is doing my head in. Am just so bloody tired.

poor you - are you still feeling bad?

willow2 · 07/07/2006 19:27

Yep. Just really light headed, knackered and, at times (like now) nauseous. Is making work really hard as just can't concentrate enough to write much beyond posts on here!

I would give it a few more days but if you still feel crap, I would go back to the GP. I imagine (from seeing ds who really did take the whole length of the antibiotic course + another week or so) that it is possible to feel rubbish especially if you've had that infection for the last four months and only now is it being knocked on the head.

Have you got a good tonic like floradix or other ones (there are plenty in the chemists) - look out for ones with caffeine in though.

Do you think it's possible that this might be some post-viral fatigue dragging on? I wouldn't be too worried yet though.

Foxie, I just don't know what is going on - but thank you so much for your advice! xxx
