I've just had/having my first AF - and I know u're ment to wait for 2 af's b4 using the persona after a baby, but I was just wondering what your thoughts were on using it as a contraceptive.

I used it to get PG/work out my OV days which were always between CD12-14. my cycles were always 26/27 dasy dep on when I ov'ed.

I like the idea it's no hormoanes or anything, we've got condoms and will beusing those for the minute till the next AF/we move house but was just wondering aboutt he persona as well, as I don't fully trust the condoms.

It is supposed to be 97% effective
I think you have to be patient as it can take several months to get an acceptable amount of green days IE days you can do it with no protectin and several of these days will be when you are having your period. It would be good to use along with the condoms.

I used it before I had dd1 and worked a treat - I used it to get pregnant and that worked a treat as well.

I intended to use it after to dd1 but never got around to it - hence I got pregnant with dd2 when dd1 was 7 months - dd2 is now 21 weeks!

I think you are supposed to wait for a couple of cycles so that you hormones had settled down - make sure you are using condoms before you start using it or you may have a small age gap like me.

lol, ahy and DH wouldn't be best impressed! lol. I just don't fancy the pill again.

I know three women who used Persona machines as a contraceptive. I met them all at our NCT ante-natal classes because they had all fallen pregnant while they were using the machine. That was enough to convince me that it's not as effective as they claim - although if you're using condoms as well you might be luckier than my friends were!

fingers crossed eh lol - any more thoughts?

I used it very effectively for a couple of years between DS1 and DS2, then used it go get pregnant. I have to say I always looked on it as a contraceptive for someone who didn't want to get pregnant, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if they did, if that makes sense! Ironically I didn't have an accidental pregnancy then; I had one later when we were using condoms. DH has now had a vasectomy

I used it to get pregnant w/DD2. It worked a treat. I fell pregnant the first month of use.

That's why I don't think I'd rely on it as a contraceptive.

glassofwine · 07/07/2006 10:06

I got pregnant using persona as a contraceptive my periods are v. regular and I can normally feel when I'm ovulating so even the GP agreed that I'd probably be ok. Don't regret it now obviously, but certainly wouldn't use it unless you're prepared to run the risk of getting pg.

divamummy · 07/07/2006 10:11

would you recommend one for ttc? im trying for boy and i suppose to do it on ovulation day. so im really keen on buying one for me.

Munz · 07/07/2006 10:23

ooh ok then might give it a miss for 6 months or so then it won't matter so mcuh if I do get PG again then.

diva - yes hon i'd recommend it if u're ttc. we got PG with Joey after bd'ing on CD 12 15/16 I think it was something like that and I oved on 14. althou I did use it for about 6 months b4 I caught from it.
