I'm due to have surgery on Thursday and really just wanted to know how others have copied with children in the first few days after having this done. Lucky or not both DC are at home this week they are 3 & 6 so no rushing till Monday for school but how did others find the first few days?

You will need help for the first few days
I had my right hand done in may.im right handed!lol
So couldnt do anything to start with!
They will give you physio ecercises to do when the hand is back to life
it really helps to do them as it stops them getting stiff
I had to eat with a spoon for first couple of meals&my dp cut my food up for me,had to help me in&out the bath etc
I have a5yr old dd who was still at preschool so dp hd to get her ready&take her for few days
Have you got someone at home who can help you out with the kids?

DH has told work he is taking Friday of and a friend has said she will take the 6yr to school on Monday so I don't have to struggle on the bus with both children. I'm gonna get dh to make us all packed lunches even though 3yr & I will be at home so I don't have to do anything. 3yr will be at nursery part of the week so I should be able to rest some of it. Lucky is my nondominant hand but it could be fun.
Thank you for replying good to know what to expect.

I was able o o basic tasks after 24 hours and my surgeon said okay to drive at 5 days.
I am a vet so took home so rectal gloves (arm length) so was able to shower straight away as bandage and dressing was covered. I have since given some of these gloves to anyone I know having this surgery so they to can shower ( they also work for plaster casts too).
