nicnack2 · 03/07/2006 20:55

ring nhs to be sure is he ill

HenniPenni · 03/07/2006 20:55

It doesn't always mean meningitus, it could be a multitude of other things but better to get it checked out.

MerlinsBeard · 03/07/2006 20:58

could just be heat rash but if u r worrie dthen ring nhs direct. no one on here can tell u as we can't see it

sugarfree · 03/07/2006 20:59

My little boy had meningitis and it looked like tiny dark purple spots in clusters. It didn't start as one thing and change to another, thats how they appeared.
The nearest thing I can decribe it to is the spots you see in a love bite.Do you know what I mean?
If he has been off colour in the last couple of days,or is now and has a temperature, get him seen if you are worried, but it doesn't sound like the meningitis rash to me.HTH.

kid · 03/07/2006 21:03

Does he have a cough or temperature?
Its always safer to get medical advice, but I think I would prefer to go straight to A&E rather than wait for nhs direct to phone and tell you to go there anyway.

mummy2jake · 03/07/2006 21:05

he isnt unwell just the rash have rang nhs direct gonna ring me back think it probably is a heat rash but when it didnt fade through the glass it got me a bit worried feel a bit silly ringing them now but would hate to think if anything was wrong and i did nothing.
thanks for your replies

Try not to panic mate, when I saw Ds's rash I just 'knew',I didn't need to do the glass test,it's a blood run cold when you see it type thing.
Nulcat's little one has meningitis at the moment and she said much the same thing,I think.
Never feel silly for worrying about something like this.

kid · 03/07/2006 21:12

When DD was 11 months, she woke up one morning with a purple pin prick rash over her face and a slight temperature. The dr was great and saw us straight away, one look at DD and she sent us straight to A&E. Several blood tests later, it was decided the rash was viral. We were kept in for observations but thankfully everything was fine.
I don't think you have over reacted by phoning them, you have to be careful with rashes as far as I'm concerned.

kid · 05/07/2006 07:23

did you find out what the rash was?

teabags · 05/07/2006 12:59

rashes are such a worry, I'm off with DS to see Dr later today. he is covered on his front in little speckly dots and it keeps coming and going and he has an on/off temp. I too feel silly in case it's a heat rash but I need to know for peace of mind

sugarfree · 05/07/2006 12:59

Teabags.does he have a sore throat?Does his tongue look normal?

sandradee · 05/07/2006 13:13

I think you should bypass NHS direct - they will only tell you to see your GP anyway. I have always found them useless (sorry but I have)

I often don't use a glass but pull the skin tight around the rash since that will help to see if it blanches. If it does not blanche I would definitely go to either GP or A&E. I have been informed by GP that Meningitis spots are usually purple / red and dont go because it's the blood leaking out under the skin which is why the spots wont go away if you press them.

I think his tongue is normal, sugarfree? Don't know about sore throat as he's only 1. I wish he could tell me. He just cries a lot and I can't put it down to heat rash because of the added grizzles iyswim. I'm seeing the Dr in an hour and he will probably miraculously recover as they do........!

Too late now Teabag but ds3 has scarletina at the moment and the rash is similar, but he's got a sore thraot and his tongue is bright, bright red with spots on.

teabags · 05/07/2006 18:03

Dr said it was heat rash (now I feel silly ) but he is sooo grizzly and had a temp last night plus spots. Seemed excessive for heat rash? Anyway, at least I know he is ok
