ok a bit embarrassing... i'm 35 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from a mega itch down below for a couple of weeks. at first i though it was stubble rash (i trim with an electric shaver). however the skin around the outside of by vagina and on my bikini line is getting extremely red, itchy and also a bit flaky white - just like athletes foot. i have no itch inside, just outside in the creases but it is beginning to drive me batty. i have always worn cotton pants, although it is getting a bit clammy down there - possibly due to the extra weight etc.

so could it be thrush?

or could i somehow have a version of athletes foot down there?

if anyone can advise if either canestan cream or the athletes foot cream are safe to use on the outside areas below during pregnancy i would be eternally grateful.

I would try Caneston cream rather than the foot cream as I assume the foot cream can not be used in that area.

Speak to a pharmacist, but it's my understanding that you can use Canestan cream but not the tablet treatments.

Thrush and athletes foot are related so it's unsurprising that it looks similar.

thanks for your advise, i'll try anything!

Get the 2% canestan cream.. don't let them fob you off with the 1%. It's rubbish.

It could be thrush or it could be jock itch- which is basically athletes foot of the groin. They are just caused by different types of fungus. Lamisil is what would be used for the jock itch but you'd need to check you could use it when pregnant. Try the canestan first and see if it works.

thanks again, yes i've searched online about jock itch and it seems that could be what it is. sounds very american...i hope the pharmacist knows what i'm asking about! thanks again x
