after being wheezy last night and coughing up blood stained phlegm this morning i have just been to the doctor.
he has given prednisolone tablets. i am very worried about the effect on the immune system as ds has a low immune system anyway (has had blood tests)
he seems fine now in himself.
so, should i give him the prednisolone

and, should i let him go into school this afternoon?

I dunno - does he feel rubbish? did the doctor think the blood was from coughing so much and not from his chest?

part of me thinks you should give him the prednisolone as I doubt the doctor would have given it to him if he didn't think he needed it

I wouldn't send him to school till tomorrow

What's prednisolone for?

foxinsocks · 03/07/2006 11:37

it's a type of corticosteroid and in asthma, it helps reduce inflammation in the chest (I think, I'm not medical but dh and dd get asthma!)

however, it does also suppress the immune system (so you have to be careful not to get things like chicken pox or shingles)

he has been having salbutamol which was given him along with a preventer inhaler when he got wheezy once before, wondering whether i should give him the preventer instead.
he already has a steroid nasal spray, eyedrops and medicine for his hayfever so this all seems alot to me.

with the going to school, it's just that he seems totally fine today!

but would i be an idiot to give a preventer rather than prednisolone when thats what the doctor said?
i'm driving myself mad here. i suffer from health related anxiety problems aswell.

foxinsocks the blood isn't from coughing because he hardly coughs, i keep telling him to cough to try and clear it
