dp has injured his leg.

He can't straighten it or walk on it

it is the back of his knee but not obviously swollen

ok if he keeps it bent and perfectly still otherwise excruciatingly painful

he did it last night

should he have it checked over tomorrow or just rest it until he hopefully can walk on it again?

Get it checked out.

zippitippitoes · 02/07/2006 15:50

that's what I thought but dp is reluctant as he says it's not broken and they won't actually do anything

If it is the back of the knee it sounds like it could be ligament damage - the pain as he tries to straighten the leg but ease on bending sounds like one could have snapped (ouch!)

MUST get it checked out asap.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/07/2006 15:58

Inability to straighten might mean torn cartlidge.

I'm generally inclined to leave stuff be ... if it sounds like a muscular problem. This does not sounds like a muscular problem. Sorry, A+E or GP. Odds are, GP will just send him to A+E for x-rays anyway.

zippitippitoes · 02/07/2006 17:39

thanks for the advice..it is impossible for him to move it from the bent position so I'll take him to the gp in the morning although we will probably end up being sent to the hospital

I'm concerned that rest and total immobility are two different things

Really cross that this is entirely due to post football troublemaker syndrome

It doesn't sound broken. If he can keep it pain-free, by not moving it and keeping it in a specific position, then he probably isn't making it worse. Still, he'd be better off going to A+E now.

Keeping it elevated (higher than heart) is a good idea. As is taking a maxdose of iboprofen. I doubt either of these will fix it at all, but they might help keep it from getting much worse.

back of the knee, bakers cyst???

WigWamBam · 04/07/2006 11:50

How's his knee now, zippi?

zippitippitoes · 04/07/2006 12:03

Thank you for asking..he went to the gp on Monday morning who diagnosed a knee sprain...and a couple of medications to take. He is on crutches and rest..a darn nuisance. Painful too.

Oooh, poor bloke. Glad he went and had it looked at though - hope it improves soon.
