You've lost me. Do bananas cause them or cure them? Genuinely interested. I've had one for what seems like years.

ellenrose · 29/06/2006 21:51

What is this - yes CC, please let me know as I have had one which seems to keep coming back and now ds2 has one too? Bananas??

Beauregard · 29/06/2006 21:54

I caught a verruca just before i left school
and had it for years and they bred and bred and eventually there was a raised cluster of about 30 on the edge of the ball of my big toe,and it hurt even to walk on them sometimes.I had had verruccas burnt and frozen off before and no way was i having that again! Eventually i was so desperate i tried the banana thing ,as i heard that the peel if left on will kill them, did it f*.
Do you wanna know how i got rid in the end ?
I got pregnant with dd1 (11 years later)and when i was about 20 weeks i woke up and they had vanished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

charliecat · 29/06/2006 21:54

Right, i have searched the MN archives and apparently if you put the WET side of a banana skin onto a verruca and attach wih plaster/bandage it cures them
So dd1 now has a chunk of banana skin attached to her big toe...
Hopefully one of the cured will come along and tell us more

Evening

Thanks to Mumsnet I tried this. Wet side down, taped overnight, scooped the crap away when removed and put new one on. Did this for about a week and then decided to leave it (was better but was just getting fed up ). I'm a bit of a 'picker' (you know, spots etc, can't help myself) and I used to try and get the black dots out after then I just started doing more filing again.

Anyway, not long after the banana skin thing and one day looked at my foot after a shower and was amazed they'd gone!!

I'd had them for years and had an op over a year ago which left me unable to walk properly for a month! Would never go through that op again, was awful!!

Try the banana skins although I will warn you, they do stink a bit after they've been on and will more so in this heat. If that puts you off then just put on overnight to start! I tell you what though, it instantly relieved the pain of walking for me

Rowlers · 01/07/2006 23:14

Mine went with pregnancy too

twickersmum · 05/07/2006 11:31

ok, have done this for two nights now - and it is surprisingly comfy!! it's quite nice having them all cushioned - still haven't taken last night's off!
How long do i need to do it for do you think?

Beetroot · 05/07/2006 11:36

you cut out a bit of banana skin, and tape it your foot? and leave it over night? but not in the day presumably

harrisey · 05/07/2006 11:45

You cut about a square cm of banana skin, plaster it to the foot and change daily. I used to do it before school.
It goes a bit black - like a banana left out of the skin, but with my dd1 it was gone in less than 2 weeks and has never come back.
Its supposed to be the enzymes in the banana skin tha tdoes it. Worked for us anyway, better than the freezing which was a disaster (dd1 screeched, even though her daddy was dong it (is doc)), and bazuka, whic just didnt work for us.

Beetroot · 05/07/2006 11:46

how can it stay on in the day time though? when walking does in not fall off even with tape?

harrisey · 05/07/2006 11:57

stayed on fine with a big plaster!

We call dd's verruca Veronica !

lol - didn't try banana - too gross for my daughter. Did try duct therapy ! yep sticking duct tape over the verruca (as recommended by somewhere on the internet). Didn't work either. Eventually went back to Dr and asked for Salatic Acid which is stronger than the usual stuff they dole out on perscription. 10 days later and its working well. Can see hole in dd's foot round half of verruca where is is diong whatever it does before it falls out. Bye Bye Veronica!
