So I started with a mould sore throat around a week ago, which almost subsided by Tuesday. Which then returned with a vengeance yesterday. OMG it's like one of those where it feels like there is barbed wire wrapped round your throat, the pain is constantly there.

I've had my tonsils removed so I know it's not tonsillitis. I've garbled with salt water (yuk) and taken all the painkillers & sore throat liquid I can find in my cupboard.

I'm thoroughly miserable, alongside headaches, sore throats has to be one ailments that really fooking hurts! I just feel so low with it, ds is poorly also at the moment and in general other things seem like they are going to shit!

Any remedies for sore throats?!!!

Sounds like a 'strep' throat. Antibiotics are needed. Can lead to more serious illnesses and is debilitating. See the doctor

Warm drinks will soothe.
Have you any Manuka honey?

HaveAGoodDay · 05/10/2013 21:37

Yes, now you mention it, if I remember rightly I had this a few years ago, I had antibiotics for it. Will have to wait till Monday to be seen by Dr though argh!

gargle asprin/disprin if you have any. there's a great anaesthetic throat spray you can buy in the chemist too tomorrow - it's got lignocaine or similar in it...

Agree the throat spays are good Ultra Chloreseptic (sp) one.

Have you a walk in centre kind of place you could go where they can swab it before Monday?

Difflam liquid to gargle with really helps with the pain. I think they also do a spray if you prefer. And you can buy it over the counter so you can get some over the weekend. But definitely worth seeing the gp in case you do need antibiotics. One dose of penicillin now won't help and might well just contribute to any bacteria developing resistance and then being harder to treat later, don't do it!
