Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my leg?!!

Yesterday I woke in the night feeling like I had twisted my left leg. When I got up, the hip and knee were painful when I put weight on it. I was due to meet some friends for a walk but found I was getting pain that shot along my hip to knee and then down to ankle with every step. I had to turn back and usually I walk a lot but the last month I haven't been doing so much as no longer need to do school run. Any ideas what it can be? Booked in to go but not until next thurs.

Could be a trapped nerve as the pain runs down the whole leg from the hip to the ankle. If no one part is swollen then unlikely to be cartilage tears - my knee swelled up.
It might go away before next Thursday. An X-ray can rule out arthritis of the hip and knee joints.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking, or maybe sciatic nerve? Seems a bit better today, and thinking of going for a walk to see how it is. Such a pain. You really take mobility for granted.

My ex- gardener had something similar and GP thought it was sciatica, but he had an x-ray later and needed a replacement hip as it was the hip joint causing the problem. He was in his mid 50s, though.

Google stretches for sciatica. These help massively.

If no improvement over next week - either see a physio or the GP.

Thanks TheFuzz, I will have a look. Digerd, hope it's not the hip joint Shock

I hope so too, but assume you are younger than 50s.
