Growing pains!!!!

Taking DS to the doctors this afternoon because he is complaining of pains in his legs.

He has complained in the past, but it seems like the little boy who cried wolf as his timing is quite selective!Recently he has complained even more and that his knee is really hurting in particular.

The school called my over yesterday afternoon and said that he has also been complaining in school and finds it uncomfortable sitting on the floor.

Thought I'd take him just to get it checked out but please,has anyone got any feedback on growing pains!!!! He is 7 at the end of August.

I remember getting 'growing pains' in my legs as a little girl, my leg would ache all day and then at night I would have shooting pains, it never happened in both legs at the same time.
The pains would usually be below the knee, I remember hot water bottles helped me.

Could he have hurt his leg or something in school??? I think it's a good idea to get the pain checked out.

I'm worried stupid now. Saw a locum as our Doctor is on holiday. He hardly looked at his leg at all and wants him to go for blood tests now!!!

Yet another hospital appointment!!!Worried what they are looking for now!

omg, my son has the exact problem that your son has!!!! he's been having knee pains for 2-3 year
it would hurt him so bad that sometimes i'd have to give him painkillers. it would wake him in the middle of the night crying. yup, i've already taken him to the dr., had xray which showed everything normal, had blood test too for rheumatic problems, negative also, so the dr. explained that it's just "growing pain"

i remember i had it once in awhile when i was small but not as bad as my son. my brother used to have it too when he was small, does it run in the genes or something??!!

Rubbish patient management not to tell you what they're testing for!!

Anyway, on growing pains (a fave subject of mine, along with those horrible new-mother ankle and wrist pains, which also are normally nothing to worry about & just something to bear with), please see latest old thread here . If it's to do with growing, the worry would be if the pain affects his hip. Do let us know what the tests are for (if you're ever told)!

On Choco's qu about genetics, I bet it is related - in that you probably inherit a particular pattern of growth hormone release, so that if it's released in surges you're more likely to get the fast bone growth which outstrips the poor stretched muscle.

Thanks ladies, having such a rotten day of it today. On top of the extra school run and doctor appointment have had the school on the phone re; my DDs SENs and statementing and my mum is still back and forwards to the hospital....my little brain just wants to switch off from it all ATM.

I asked the locum, what were the blood test for and if they were looking for anything in particular but all he said it would rule out some possibilities!! They are sending him for a full blood count and "diff" on the request form!!

I can't help but worry, having a 4 yr old with SN life is problematic enough at times!!!

Both my DH and his Sister had growing pains, as do my neices and recently my DS.

I felt like such a rotten mum, just putting it down to growing pains and letting him get on with it!!
