Periods closer together - beginning of the end?

After 38 years or so of 4-weekly periods (pregnancy aside) they are now arriving every 3 and a bit weeks but not so long - couple of days or so. Is this this start of the menopause? I'm nearly 50.

It could be. I've been peri-menopausal for a couple of years. Mine were always every 4 weeks, but since last Christmas my cycle has got shorter. I actually went 3 months without a period then they have settled down to every 3 weeks. The last two were only 2 days long (yay). I have heard it's something to do with nature trying to fertilise the last few eggs quickly. I see it as a step nearer to no more periods, I can't wait.
