On day 12 of my period - wtf is going on?!

I'm 45, normally fairly regular, 28ish day cycle with the odd blip of a week either way (e.g. 3-4 times over as many years). I was sterilised aged 38 so hormonal contraception is a distant memory and my youngest DC is 14 in a couple of days.

My period started right on time 12 days ago, and although it is lighter I still have to wear a pantyliner and sometimes change it during the day too. I went for a long run this morning (first run this week though) and it was even heavier than normal afterwards.

Any ideas? Don't know whether to see the GP or just write it off as one of those perimenopause oddities.

Can't help you I'm afraid, I read this as the exact same thing is happening to me, I'm now in the third week, the first two weeks were much lighter than usual and then for the last two days it's been much, much heavier, Hopefully there may be some answers, if not I'm giving it until Wednesday and then going to the doctors.

I think whyamIhere that I am now in the same situation as you - it has suddenly got much heavier, more so than a normal period. I'm phoning the GP today.

Um, I'm certainly no medical expert, but could it be a fibroid? I had them round about your age. Could explain the bleeding after exercise. Mine sorted themselves out, although they were diagnosed via an ultrasound. There are threads on here about fibroids.

Postman, how have you got on, did your period stop. Mine carried on and was really heavy, heavier than I've ever known it (it frightened the living daylights out of me), I went to the doctors yesterday and he said it was hormonal, he's prescibed me some tablets which is supposed to kick start my periods into normality. I've taken two of them (one last night and one this morning) and already I'm bleeding much lighter.

Saw GP on Weds, internal exam normal, I'm not pregnant (knew that!), swabs taken, blood test tomorrow and waiting for an ultrasound appt. Bleeding finally stopped yesterday but did not get any heavier. Possibly a thyroid issue, which blood test will show. I was prescribed tablets too but didn't get them because it wasn't heavy enough to cause problems.

Hope you're feeling better.
