How do you manage periods that are too light?

TMI of course.

I wonder, if you have very light periods, how do you manage them? I can't use tampons, as the flow isn't heavy enough, I end up being scared they've been in there too long and pulling them out dry.

Pads are rubbish, there isn't enough to collect, and what there is isn't liquidy, more smeary, so it seems silly to wear a pad just getting scrunched up all over the place when all the absorbency isn't really needed. I really hate the phrase pantyliner but those don't seem to cover the right area somehow and have the same absorbency thing.

There is basically enough to ruin your knickers but never enough/ of a sufficiently 'flowing' quality to go through to trousers.

I don't think I'm a freebleeder Grin

I suspect I'm going to be told to get a mooncup, would that work for this problem?

I'm sick of wandering about with a bit of bog roll down my pants.

My periods have been light since starting on the pill and I still use my mooncup and its been fine until I boiled it dry and ruined it the other day! I used pads til I got a new one and it felt awful.

I use a mooncup for the same reason. Have done for a few years now after hearing about them on MN.

RandomMess · 25/09/2013 19:46

mooncup or thick cotton knickers in black!

valiumredhead · 25/09/2013 20:00

Moon cup or panty liner.

You might find washable towels more comfortable, I have used washables (and a cup) for a long time now and hate it if I have to wear disposable towels, they are grim and noisy too.

as one who is at the other end of the scale I am thinking how lucky you are to have this problem... panty liner?

hugoagogo · 26/09/2013 16:07

Washable towels work really well for this; I have a mirena and never get a period as such just a yukky smear as you describe.

I made my own from old pyjamas but there are plenty of nice ones online to buy. Just choose the ones described as panty liners.

hugoagogo · 26/09/2013 16:12

Posh You too may find washable towels suit you better too, some people actually find that their periods seem lighter when using them.

Not sure how that would work, but it cannot hurt.

They are certainly very comfortable, not to mention cheaper and better for the enviroment.

Yes a mooncup works perfectly fine, and as a bonus you can just empty and rinse it morning and night so no worries about public toilets. The only annoying thing is having to take it out for sex, if you have sex when on your period.

I sometimes put mine in between periods when my normal discharge is very heavy.

I use a mooncup and it's fine Smile
