U/S on kidneys and UT- what do they do?

Hi, I'm going for an ultrasound on kidneys & urinalysis tract on Friday...:does anyone know what this will involve- the doctor left a voicemail telling me they'd referred me due to kidney infections/pain but it hasn't been explained to me. Will they just scan the kidneys or will they need to scan other areas?

They will scan kidneys and bladder. You should have been told how much to drink beforehand. Scanning kidneys means the probe is over your tummy just below the ribs and then they will probably ask you to roll onto your side a bit and they'll put the probe around your side and back. At least, that's what mine were like! Best of luck, hope it all goes well
