Me and my ds3 have both got the worst most lingering sore throat. My tonsils went all spotty and to my amazement the gp said i needed penicillin..that was a week ago - i had had it for 5 days when i went. I feel no better - cant swallow or yawn - why is it taking so long??

you need to be seen by the dr. again, you may need to change to another antibiotic. happened to my son before...my dr. told me that whether the antibiotic works or not is usually seen within 2 days. after 2 days if you still have high fever or the white spots on the tonsils have not decreased (or actually increased), then you'll need to try to another anitbiotic

Tonsillitis can be bacterial or viral, maybe if the antibiotics aren't working it's the later, def see the Dr again, that's what they're there for.
