Sorry, should explain, there's a long thread with all the background info at the link below. Just trying to draw attention to it.

Not much advice from me, my mum suffered from loss of taste after being ill but we think that was side effect of chemo. How is her sense of smell? Its a powerful part of taste, maybe you could start her off on smelling games of really nice things, chips, baked bread and cakes, bacon sanwiches and see if she can identify them, them move onto tasting games like we used to play when we were little - no swallowing just tasting. Obviously the normal advice of soft food and liquids and very tiny amount.

Good luck

try cinnamon on her tongue with nose pinched (she won't guess) then unpinch nose - cinnamon is entirely about smell not taste. Just a thought.

She smells fine Gin - it's just the tast side of things - the other thread has all the info though. Thanks for suggestions though.

in that case try the cinnamon thing - it may convince her brain that she can taste (when it fact it all about smell) - but what do I know!

Good luck

Here's an odd thought. Is it possible that her hormones are off? I have an acute sense of smell and taste (notice things that no one else does) and when I was pregnant it went completely crazy. Completely due to hormones. I think that one of the symptoms of menopause is odd sense of taste/smell.
I like sue's ideas of trying to jump start the taste sensation.

Hi Sofia - thanks for the car seat (hijack), haven't tried fitting it yet!

Sofia - where on earth have you been? Don't think it is her hormones (she's on HRT) think it is something to do with the trauma of being intubated for so long and then fed through a nasal tube for even longer.
