3rd ear infection in 5 weeks. Any suggestions other than antibiotics?

dd is really suffering. She's 19 months old and until this had never had any antibiotics. The second time it developed into an abscess which all settled with the ab's until today when nursery rang to say she'd spiked a temp of 40 and her ear was oozing again. GP has given amoxycillin again, just wondered if anyone had any other ideas?

You say amoxycillin again, I thought each time you have abs, they are supposed to be a different brand (brand not the right word, but you know what I mean) as the same wont work the second time round.

That's what I was wondering, she had amoxy first time then erythromycin then today amoxycillin again. Is that logical?

Oh yes, I think thats fine, as she has had something different in between, though as it is the 3rd infection in such a short time, I would have thought you would have been given something different.

What I meant was, You are not supposed to have the same abs twice in a row, sorry not making much sense.

Don't worry waterfalls I'm just draining the last of a bottle of wine so not the most lucid either!! What I've written is factually correct though and for that I congratulate myself!!!

I seem to remember someone on mumsnet extolling the virtues in xylitol in toothpaste preventing ear infections. It is in tesco's own brand of childrens toothpaste.
