Feeling Strange

Not sure if this should be in feeling depressed, weaning or in health!!

DD is 6 1/2 months and we started on solids last week. She is been taking fewer/shorter breastfeeds since then. I've been feeling really bizarre - almost like PMT and have had the shittiest day today. Do you think this is hormonal, like my body adjusting to producing less milk?

Thinking back, i've felt like this a couple of times since she was born and the last time might have been around the time i dropped the dream feed.

Anyone else get this when weaning?

I could have written this. DD exactly the same age and at the same stage food wise. I haven't noticed it so much before or if I have I've put it down to exhaustion because she's not the best sleeper.

I've got mild cramps, alomost like ovulation pains or those cramps you get just after birth when you BF and it's your uterus shrinking back to size. Also v. grumpy and intolerant. Basically I feel like I'm due any day now but as DD is still feeding 6 times a day (inc a night feed still) I doubt that I'll get my periods back for a while yet.

Pennies, glad to see it isn't just me. Starting to think i'm turning into a right weirdo! My periods actually returned when dd was 4 months, about 10 days after she started sucking her thumb and suckling less. Aren't our bodies the strangest things???

I'm still bf dd2 (she's nearly 1) and occasionally get a PMT sort of feeling - hadn't thought of it being milk-related, but maybe it's at times when she has more food/less milk.

You said it - very strange! the thing is I am rubbish about health and worry about it alot. I had a malignant melanoma last year and although I was bad before I had that I'm about a million times worse, so each time something's not feeling 100% perfect i'm in pieces and convince myself that the cancer spread. Horrid way to be.

It's not just you! I had major moodswings when I was cutting back on breastfeeds. I think your body must get addicted to the happy hormones released while feeding, so when you start cutting back your body takes a while to adjust.

Makes me feel better just knowing that others feel this too

Thanks!
