Hi Guys,

I posted on here a few weeks ago about my knee problems.
I am awaiting referral for an arthroscopy.
My weight which I so proudly lost by exercising this year is now creeping back on.
Physiotherapist has told me my range of exercise is virtually nil till I have had the surgery.
Any ideas on what I can do -I am cutting out alcohol completely for a couple of months.

low carb, high protein & fibre etc would've been my guess. (Have a dodgy leg and sometimes can only lose weight through diet & that combination works well for me). Less white carbs overall really helps (so brown rice/pasta, not too much crap etc etc). Alcohol is a good start obviously Smile

(I also only eat about 1,200-1,500 calories a day if I'm can't do any extra exercise, besides walking. That plus being careful food wise usually cuts it) Smile

Weight loss is 90% diet - exercise is great for maintenance but you need to be doing a lot of cardio to burn enough calories to lose significant amounts of weight. I actually find it easier to lose weight when not exercising - when training for a marathon I often put on weight as it makes me so damn hungry.

So don't despair, any diet (SW, WW, calorie counting, 5:2 etc) will work irrespective of exercise!

Eat less than you normally do. Keep it simple.

Hi, I have a knee that needs replacing and a spinal injury but I exercise. Think your physio is being unimaginative!

Can you swim? I am a swimmer and do front crawl with a pullbouy float between my legs which give my upper body and gluteus some work. I walk in the pool, forwards, back, sideways. All kinds of options...at home lots of Pilates type exercises on the floor. Aquacize classes may be a bit too energetic but you could maybe join in and do the bits you can manage.

Also, be a fidget, it burns calories up!

I have gained a bit of weight, too despite the above. Basically I think you have to be super careful and strict. It's hard. I tend to delay my meals so breakfast is late morning, lunch mid pm and this helps combat my 5pm so starving I lose all self control madness.

Hope you get your op soon and feel better.
