Oh no, how awful for her. Could it be her appendix? Whatever it is I hope she feels better soon.

oliveoil · 22/06/2006 14:07

dh not answering phone

hope she is ok, she is lovely

on a selfish note, , she has my girls when I work so I am well up shit creek if she is ill, I will have to stay off, and for how long etc etc

God Olive - I hope she is okay. Same happened to me a few weeks ago. Found her in the garden. It is scary stuff. Sending love and best wishes.

oliveoil · 22/06/2006 14:10

what happened to your mil?

OP posts:
schneebly · 22/06/2006 14:20

different symptoms OO - minor heart attack but she is fine now.

oliveoil · 22/06/2006 15:44

Oh good xx

dh has phoned and she is on morphine and waiting on a ward - has been for hours.

Anyone know what will happen if it is a hernia?

OP posts:
sugarfree · 22/06/2006 15:52

Probably surgery, but depends on what they find on examination and how her pain is,they may just observe for a day or two.

sugarfree · 22/06/2006 15:53

Try not to panic until you have some definate news of a diagnosis.

bundle · 22/06/2006 15:54

you only usually get pain with a hernia if it's strangulated (twisted so causing obstruction in the abdomen) and if it is they'll have to operate as it can be v dangerous. is she overweight? does she smoke?

oliveoil · 22/06/2006 15:57

overweight but doesn't smoke

dh reckons she went to the docs last year about it and they said she needed to lose weight pronto. But she didn't....

dd2 was there when the ambulance turned up and wanted to get in, bless

Abdo pain can be due to lots of things, you're really are better waiting to hear something definate.

Hope she's ok,Olive.

bundle · 22/06/2006 17:36

I hope she's ok olive. being overweight & smoker are both risk factors for hernia, that's why i asked.

oliveoil · 27/06/2006 13:07

UPDATE:

She had emergency op on Thursday night - she had a "strangulated hernia" wtf that is I have no idea.

Was only in overnight but is in pain and cannot move from downstairs apart from to go to bed. Looks very grey and ill and this has hit her for 6 but she has lots of lovely family to rally round.

SHE CANNOT DO ANYTHING FOR AT LEAST 4 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I have had to cut down my work days and dh is looking after the girls for 2 days a week.

And then we have the summer hols to cover.

Does anyone know how to clone oneself????

OP posts:
bundle · 27/06/2006 13:55

bloody hell olive, re: childcare. I'm glad she's ok though.

here's a transcript of a programme we made on hernias, but only a teeny bit is on strangulation. it's basically when it becomes twisted & is life-threatening if not treated promptly. her scar may be bigger than a "normal" hernia op so she may take a while to recover. x

oliveoil · 27/06/2006 13:59

on the strangulation risk, bloody hell. And she didn't want dh to call the ambulance 'and cause a fuss'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

V interesting that bundle, thank you.

xx
