dead mole in the playground

21 month old ds spends a lot of time scrabbling around in the corner of the playground, poking the earth about with a stick, picking up stones and weeds. We don't have a garden so we are there every day for an hour or two. A few days ago we found a dead mole in that corner, lying prostrate on the earth. I feel the council workers must have poisoned it, very unusual for a mole to die out on the ground of natural causes, and now i'm worried that Ds might have ingested some poison, maybe not enough to hurt him short term but not very nice long term. Am i worrying unneccesarily or would you be worried?

I wouldn't be too worried unless DS had been chewing on the mole or if the poison had been lying out, its more likely to poison had been in one of thoose boxes hidden away somewhere.

its just that i googled 'mole poison' and read that is must not be used in areas where children play...

another animal may have killed it, it may have eaten the poisen elsewhere and crawled there to die. it may not even have been poiseneed.

i wouldnt be worried.

I agree with Misdee, it may have been that a cat had got it, my cats got a mole a few months ago and to look at it you wouldn't have thought so, as in not mauled or anything.

thanks ladies - it is still there so i think i may have to remove it myself today [yuk emoticon]

do you know it is a first time i've seen one in the wild - he was so sweet with his little pink fingers and snout.

My DS LOVES moles, he would have been so upset. In fact he loves them so much we used to have to call him Purple Baby Mole instead of his real first name!

Our neighbours cat killed a mole last week and left it on a track that runs behind our house so it is possible it was killed by another animal.
