Stupidly heavy periods - copper coil

stowsettler · 11/09/2013 11:18

I expect there have been loads of threads about this, so sorry if I'm repeating.

I had my copper coil fitted on July 4th, 4.5 months after having DD. The one period I had before I got it fitted was heavy, but nothing like they've been since!

I'm using super size tampons PLUS extra long night-time towels and changing them every 2 hours Angry. I can't do exercise because I'm scared of jumping up and down. I'm on day 4 of my second period post-coil and it's still coming out like a bloody river (pun very much intended). It's probably about as heavy as the first 10 days post-birth.

This is horrible. Before getting pg my periods were pretty light really, and all over and done with by Day 5. How long should I give it before getting it taken out?

Thanks for any advice.

See your doctor pronto you'll develop anemia plus all types pf flooding disasters - not fun! I have v heavy periods and for a while took medication tp reduce the flow, you can get v effective stuff on prescription. Copper coils do tens tomake periods heavier - o now have a mirena coil whichmeansy periods are really light. Such a relief but you just need tp go through your options

Thank you, I think I will have to see the GP. Actually I'm thinking of having it taken out straight away - I was hoping to get pg again in the new year, after which DP is having the snip - whether he likes it or not!

I would make an apt with the GP asap and whilst you are there ask for a gynae referral.

You need to know exactly why this is happening; fibroids for instance can cause such heavy bleeding to arise.

I know that I have a fibroid, detected when I was pg, so that may be a contributing factor. Yes you're right I should get it seen to. Thanks.

I had mine fitted at a similar time, they advised 3-6 months for it to settle. My first couple of days are heavier, the main problem for me is having a period every 2 weeks Angry

Jeez good that's a nightmare - more than problem! At least I only get a period every 6 weeks or so at the moment. Trouble is when it's here it's HUGE and lasts for YEARS!

Yeah mine is every 14/15 days and lasts for 8 days Confused
It does seem to be settling down now, I got 20 days between this month and it seemed lighter so I'm sticking with it

I have a copper coil and periods are every 28 days and last 7 days. One day I have to set alarm in the middle f the night to change tampax+ pad.

It's okay, periods were heavy before.....but not ideal

I had the same problem, I was prescribed ponstan forte tablets which seem to have done the trick
