Ferritin 71 and hemoglobin 114 - will I come off of iron tablets?

My ferritin came up at 16 roughly around 3 months ago. I initially had and still do have symptoms of hairloss, ringing in ear, short of breath, blurry vision, palpitations, fatigue and dizziness with a hoarse voice which comes and goes.
I called the surgery for my latest results which have come back as ferritin 71 (wow I thought) and hemoglobin 114 (which according to the receptionist is good). My initial excitement soon diminished when I realised I still feel like shit and now feel at a loss.
My doc appointment isn't till next week and now left wondering if I should now bother to still take the iron tablets.
My thyroid tsh came back as 2.1 and although I asked he refused to carry out the t3 and t4 tests.

I would say keep going with both for the time being. Your ferritin can go up to 100 without any problem and your Hb would only be mid-range here. Perhaps what the receptionist is saying is that you are not anaemic - which is good.

However, low ferritin very often goes hand in hand with thyroid issues and if your TSH came back at 2.1, then it is possible, depending on your other thyroid levels, that you could also be hypothyroid as well.

Lots of info on't web about all this. Do some homework and go back to your doc and ask for FT4, FT3, TPO and TgAB, oh and while you're there, vitamin B12 and folate and vitamin D as well.

One of these, or a combination of more than of these will be the cause of your symptoms and if you don't tackle your doc now and show him you mean business, he may well write you off with a CFS diagnosis when you could be fixed with supplements and possibly thyroid hormones as well. I speak from experience!

Thanks for the great reply RockinD.
Don't worry I've been harassing my doctor. Iv'e had all of the above tests you mentioned. The B12 came back high (even though I'm vegetarian) and the vitamin D was low (I'm now supplementing).
Regarding the thyroid he refuses to test anything further than the tsh (2.18). I had a look on the thyroid UK website and mentioned was the importance of the t3, t4 which he point blank refuses to test for because my tsh is within the normal range.
It's got to the point where I may have to go private to test further. I couldn't bare the - cfs take the anti depressant and bugger off- diagnosis. I want to feel human again.
