BetsyBoop · 24/09/2013 16:11

kitkat that sounds like a good plan :) Docetaxol is the work of the devil IME and best avoided if possible. Thank goodness only one more... Grin I hope pacelitaxel will be kinder to you.

trice · 24/09/2013 16:22

Hope this works, the mobile site is flakey as anything at the moment.

Hi to handbags, hello again Gracie.

I had a very unwelcome visitor thus morning. Sodding period. After nine years of nothing (I had mirena before cancer). It was the one positive thing about tamoxifen. Needless to say I had nothing in the house and had to send Dh to the chemist. And always pads now smell of loo cleaner! Why have they done that?

kitkat1967 · 24/09/2013 16:23

malt - infusion but will be having it at home.
Betsy - there should not be any big crashes but the SEs will build up over the weeks apparently.

topsyturner · 24/09/2013 16:43

Lilymaid · 24/09/2013 16:53

Pleased to see yhou re-emerge back into the world Betsy. My 5th Tax has seemed worse than the last one (but I don't get nearly the side effects that you do). I'll be glad when my mouth doesn't taste as though I've consumed a cabinet of chemicals! DS2 has been very considerate but it is last week before he goes back to university at the weekend. I shall miss him, but I wouldn't fancy being him and stuck with a sick old mum watching daytime TV from the sofa! We managed a quick trip out to giant Sainsbury's today to buy a few things for his student house (most stuff seems to need replacing annually as it is lost/destroyed!)
Welcome to all others who have had recently joined this thread. I've no particularly useful experience except that I have now had 5 cycles of Tax and am still reasonably OK (except days 3-7).

kitkat1967 · 24/09/2013 17:06

ahhh.. Topsy is your DD in year 6 then? My DD is the youngest in her year and was always behind all the other girls and didn't ask for any crop tops until secondary school but I know most of the other girls were wearing them in the final year.
Now of course, as she is 13, I am incredible envious of her gorgeous long hair and the fact that she has 2 boobs (!!).

malteserzz · 24/09/2013 17:21

Another post disappeared !

handbagsatdawn · 24/09/2013 17:43

Topsy crop tops are practically de rigueur in year 6! In fact I think dd1 started wearing one in yr5. Mostly to do with having to change for PE in an adjacent room to the boys and peer pressure, rather than actually having boobs.

BetsyBoop · 24/09/2013 18:40

I hope your taste buds get back to normal soon lily - I find I lose all sense of taste, it's more things "feeling" weird in my mouth that gets me - like water "feels" soapy/oily. This round hasn't been as bad as the last thank goodness, a lot easier to cope when the bone/joint pain is under control. Sick of the hot flushes though, do you get them on tax?

Lilymaid · 24/09/2013 18:52

Betsy I'm a right old gimmer so beyond the hot flush stage (unless miraculously rejuvenated). I had the bone aches on the first cycle but not since, fortunately. And I'm not prescribed as many steroids as you, so can sleep relatively well (apart from waking with a mouth like the bottom of a parrots cage).
That's not to say that it is all nice and easy (as my BIL - who has neither spoken to me nor seen me since diagnosis - has made out). Just because we manage to get back to some semblance of normal life during the better weeks, doesn't make the treatment any easier to deal with.

PictureThis · 24/09/2013 18:57

Lily, have you suffered with a sore mouth? My tongue is starting to feel a bit tender on each side so I've started using a diluted corsodyl mouthwash and bought a pineapple to eat. For those of us needing herceptin what good news today. I'm all for a 2 minute subcut injection as opposed to a 1.5hr iv infusion...so long as it works the same.
GBBO tonight, love it. Will be lighting the fire though, getting a bit nippy here.

reallyreallyworried · 24/09/2013 18:57

Hi all

Well I think I will have to face the fact that my surgeon and BCN are trying to avoid me Hmm So surgeon is away on two weeks holiday, hopefully she'll be back to sort my date for surgery next week. And now it appears my BCN has not got back to work yet, after her holiday!! I don't think I am that scary Grin

So I briefly spoke to another nurse and she said that there wasn't much she could tell me at the moment, and it would be best for me to try and put it to the back of my mind, until the surgeon is back! (easier said than done) But I will do my best to not worry about it!

Of course the bigger problem is other people asking me when the surgery is, and when will I get the scan results and what's going to happen next!! I DON'T KNOW!!! Think I am starting to see that maybe the way to go is to avoid telling people that I have tests or surgery coming up! Then they won't ask! Hopefully!

Welcome to handbags I am fairly new on here, diagnosed at the beginning of August. Wouldn't of got this far without the support and wise words of these ladies. Xxx

Lilymaid · 24/09/2013 19:07

Picture - I had a sore mouth first cycle, but not so much since, fortunately. I just use ordinary non alcohol mouth wash now. I seem to have been fortunate with side effects so far - though they are bad enough. But there's always something lurking round the corner, so I wonder how I'll get on with radiotherapy.
Sounds like good news over Herceptin. I think I am destined for Tamoxifen (unless there is a newer version).

PictureThis · 24/09/2013 19:49

Ah, well this is my first cycle so hopefully I won't get it next time.

kitkat1967 · 24/09/2013 20:15

Evening - I'm back from my regular 'pumping up' - think i have the pain relief sorted now as feel fine. We've got 400ml in now so he said one more week then leave it for a few weeks before reviewing. He also told me that my breast weight 423grams - means nothing to me but is wierd to know - perhaps that's why I weighed a bit less today!!

He also said if I don't do rads I can have a 'simple reconstruction' - no idea what that is but he said it would be better for my golf so I'm all for that - no point in getting more details until we know for sure about the Rads. I do have a tentative new timeline of 9 weeks of Paclitaxel starting next week then all of December off treatment with reconstruction at the start of Jan - I do not want to go back to work only to have to take more time off.

Picture - are you having 'T' chemo then?

and Really - you are having a nightmare re results - I hope you're not going to end up like Malt was having to chase continuously in order to get anything progressed.

amberlight · 24/09/2013 20:19

Hi All
Totally stressed out at the mo as one day to go before hol. So forgive increasingly erratic behaviour.

Gracie, adding my sizeable backside to the paranoia box for you. Hopefully it's the same silly dizziness virus that several of my friends have had for weeks.

Handbags, welcome from me. If it helps, one small early lump these days has a fab chance of being zapped totally and finally. But the waiting and tests are the worst bits for many of us. Wonderful people here to chat to. Have a Brew

PictureThis · 24/09/2013 20:34

Kitkat, yes, I'm now on the T part of the treatment. I've had my 3 doses of FEC and my first of 3 T. Roll on 30 october when it's my last dose.

malteserzz · 24/09/2013 20:40

Amber am very jealous of your holiday hope you have a wonderful time Smile

kitkat1967 · 24/09/2013 21:12

wow Picture - you're rattling through the cycles - 30th oct will whizz round.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 24/09/2013 21:32

Oh gracie it's horrid, in some ways, when they actually take symptoms seriously isn't it! I'll hop on the paranoia box, and offer you a big squeeze too. I will be thinking of you tomorrow x

handbags sorry you've had to join us, but welcome :) I hope you get the best possible results.

really such a pain you're having to wait so long. I've stopped telling people specific dates for appointments and tests now so that they don't keep asking! :)

amber I hope the holiday gives you a chance to relax!

Waving to everyone. I hope you're all having a good week so far.

Am increasingly exhausted, my bowel nurse is outraged that I'm not having a transfusion so I'm rather hoping for one, it'll really perk me up! I've got my little investigative procedure tomorrow, in at 7.30 this time so hopefully won't get dropped off the list again.

topsyturner · 24/09/2013 22:13

Good luck for the morning Ruby
Fingers crossed the buggers don't bounce you again !

foofooyeah · 24/09/2013 22:15

Evening all. Very grumpy and pissed off with D bloody P. he is a fool.

Anyway just wanted to say to Ruby that when my hb count was that low it only took a couple of weeks to get it to a better level. Hope you are feeling better soon or get that transfusion (I'm irrationally scared of transfusions)

malteserzz · 24/09/2013 22:37

Oh dear foo foo what's he done ?
Ruby hope it goes ok tomorrow, eek that's early Grin
