I am so failing to keep up at the moment

lily I'm holding your hand for the tax-bus tomorrow :)

Already feeing the steroid rage, grrrr, so stand well back everyone Grin

malt You have already demonstrated your body is made of sterner stuff than mine when it comes to chemo, I'm sure you'll do just fine on tax :)

665 the waiting is definitely the worst bit, vent on here when you need to

ruby glad you managed a good sleep, hope it continues. You can take on the world so much better with "proper" sleep :)

marshy - welcome, but sorry you need to be here.

MAS hope you are feeling less yuck soon, I think your amazing swimming might just have been a bit too much too soon ? :)

trice - lung fusion? that doesn't sound nice, but hopefully it will be an improvement? We will all be here to hold your hand. :)

notj - don't you dare go an hide - vent on here whenever you need to, or there will be words Grin

to foofoo, pigeions, smee, really, gigs, amber, picture,KK, HND, jchoc and all the others I have no doubt forgotten....(is it just me, or do we seen to have a bit of an epidemic going on at the moment? My poor chemo brain is defintely struggling to keep up...)

BetsyBoop · 18/09/2013 22:26

argh kitkat how could I forget my ex-twin kitkat Grin

BetsyBoop · 18/09/2013 22:28

and topsy and snails - see my memory is just useless at the moment Confused

Lilymaid · 18/09/2013 22:34

Betsy hope the Tax goes OK tomorrow ... one more down (though I'm really not looking forward to feeling rough in a few days time and DH can probably do without my rudeness to him on my bad days!)

kitkat1967 · 18/09/2013 23:00

hello Betsy - yes, I'm def not your twin anymore - in fact I think I am treading a path all of my own now Sad.
Has anyone on here had Paclitaxel weekly or am I going to be doing a bit of trail blazing? (If I do have it that is.)

trice · 18/09/2013 23:25

Welcome to new people, sorry you are here, hope you don't need to stay and your results are as good as they can be.

My lung fusion is because the cancer has got between lung and plural wall and has made a big bag of fluid. I have had it drained a couple of times but it keep coming back bigger.

It is squashing my lung so I can't breathe very effectively and could cause scarring, infection or pneumonia if left. So they will inject it full of talc and stick a couple of drains in. The talc fuses the layers together.

The waiting list is months, unless I pretend I am suffering more breathlessness than I actually feel which onc suggested. Which would be ethically wrong in my mind. Or if I get pneumonia while I am waiting.

I would rather get it over with as I find waiting makes me more anxious.

Notj, I have the greatest sympathy. Moving house is a nightmare and bank horrors make it much worse. Please give yourself a treat, you deserve it.

jchocchip · 19/09/2013 04:09

Oh eck trice I can see why you would want to get that over with.
not keeping up here, have a fluey cold :(
Need to get back to sleep so just a quick wave. hi to marshy and 665, sorry you have found yourselves here.
Will try to catch up tomorrow...

BetsyBoop · 19/09/2013 05:57

trice reading between the lines sounds to me like you onc is asking for your help to give him the ammo to push you up the list as I bet he wants to reduce the risk of you getting scarring and pneumonia. Surely anxiety (caused by waiting) can make you breathless?!! Wink Its also easy (and very normal) to down play how you feel when asked - think of your absolute worst days, not your good ones. Honestly, in you shoes, I'd do whatever was best for me. does that make me a bad person?

Grrr steroid insomnia here, couldn't get to sleep until after 1, awake before 5....

foofooyeah · 19/09/2013 06:02

trice. Ethical schmethical. The fact that you have to wait is unethical IME. I would not want to wait for that so might up the ante a bit, hope it does get sorted soon.

betsy your posts made me laugh. My poor old brain could never manage to mention everyone so apologies that I don't. I used to be clever once! But now am old and slow.

Hope you have managed to get back to sleep chocchip. These early starts for me are doing my head in.

reallyreallyworried · 19/09/2013 06:25

Morning all Grin

It's my first day back at work, since the surgery Grin I am so excited! Oh to be 'normal' even if it's just for a couple of weeks!

Hope everyone has a better day today!

Will catch up with you all later.

Xxxxx

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 07:02

morning. We spent all yesterday evening getting a mouse out of our lounge curtains - finally released it about 11pm so DH exhausted as he has to get up early for work but I'm glad I don't have to sit here and listen to it rustling today.
A quiet day for me I think - got my White Stuff delivery coming and a few hours work to do but nothing else scheduled.
Hope you have a nice day at work really.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2013 08:11

have a good day really !
trice hope you can get sorted as soon as poss. - fingers crossed - getting pneumonia wouldn't be good so go for breathless
665 I think my results were in a couple of days after the biopsy...loads of good luck with it x
What is in your White Stuff delivery kitkat ?

Am doing a bit of cleaning today - feeling a bit more perky -think just very tired yesterday- swimmming tomorrow - I know that I tend towards to obsessive in these things. Going to a college welcome evening for parents and should meet T's tutor.

malteserzz · 19/09/2013 08:28

Mumsnet app is playing up so having to post another way, just seeing if this works !

malteserzz · 19/09/2013 08:36

It did !
Eek to mouse Kitkat
Mas don't overdo it with the swimming, hope the tutor meeting goes well
Jchoc wrap up warm hope your cold is better soon
Trice I would exaggerate your symptoms too you shouldn't have to wait. I had to do a similar thing in early pg, after a few mcs the gp said the only way I could get an early scan would be to lie and say I was bleeding which I did. Yes it's wrong but sometimes you have to play the system and look after yourself

Just had a bit of a sad conversation with ds about my hair, he wanted me to put my wig on in case his friends called for him to walk to school, normally I just wrap a towel round my head so it looks like I've washed my hair ( still have some just v v thin ) he was asking when it will grow back :( he's happy when I'm wearing my wig and his friends just think I've had my hair done. Maybe it's just his age, dd at 14 doesn't care at all
Not up to much today but going out for tea tonight for mums birthday
Hope everyone has a good day

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 11:50

Malt - both my DCs would like me to wear to my wig - mind you it does look nice and makes me look younger - but so far I only wore it once as i prefer a bandana over my thin hair. As I'm stopping cold cap I may have to use it more though so they'll be happy!!!

MAS - just a parka - there is a nice White Stuff by my onc office (so I visit every time I see the onc Blush) and on Tuesday I tried the parka on but decided it wasn't cold enough to buy a coat yet. Then on Weds I got emailed a 20% off code so decided to go for it and ordered it on-line.

Trice - I think it's OK to wait a while for your op but not if it's going to be a long wait. It sounds like it will really help you and also you don't want a big Op like that hanging over you for ages - best to get it done if you can persuade them.

HerNextDoorAt21 · 19/09/2013 12:20

Hi everyone and thanks for the wave betsy

Real life has taken over for a week or two and I had a trp back to england too.

I had surgery last Thursday to debride and close the last hole on my mx side and the bloody thing popped open while I was away. I was sitting at Birminham airport bleeding and worried to tell anyone unless they would let me fly home. I rang the breast ward for advice and they told me to apply pressure on the way home and if it was stuill bleeding to go to A&E.

I managed to get home without exploding (lol) and patch it up and went to my wound management team on Monday - my surgeon popped out of theatre and put a sticth in it ! So everyone please have your fingers crossed that this is it for this side !!!

I had a great weekend though - plonked myself in a pub for Saturday afternoon/evening and lots of old friends came down to see me - it was great.

marshy I recently had DCIS and have had a mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time in Jan 13 using LD flap technique so any questions at all - fire them my way. I had sentinel node bopsity done and they found no spread in the tissue or the nodes so luckily no chemo or radio treatmentfor me, but uit is Stage 0 cancers and its still bloody scary !!

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 19/09/2013 12:22

Hi all, I've two practical questions that I need some guidance on:

  1. Any tips on picking a wig?
All this talk about wigs reminded me that I've an appt at the wig place on Tuesday.

  2. Should I put my gym membership on hold??

I'm still in recovery from op, so wouldn't go next 2 weeks anyway. And I'm expecting to start chemo in 3 weeks time. Part of me thinks it might be handy on my 'good' weeks to do a 'little' walk on the threadmill, it will be getting cold and wet from Oct onwards so unlikely to exercise at all otherwise. Am I being unrealistic?
(I have monthly membership, gym would put it on-hold until further notice if I request it. BTW, I am not a gym bunny by any means. I'm at least a stone overweight and not particularly fit).

Trice I'm sure your onc didn't give that recommendation lightly, so I think you should follow the advice (meant in the nicest possible way). Like somebody else said above, perhaps describe your very worst days...

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 12:29

Mum - I wouldn't rush to put your membership on-hold until you see how you get on with chemo. I was awful and some days could not get out of bed and a walk was an achivement for me even on the 'good' weeks, but others get on really well and maybe would have managed to exercise. I am sorting out a membership at the moment as I am worried that I will put on wieght on tamoxifen so want make sure I am exercising when I start on that.
Re wigs I'm not much help as I have a lovely one that I have not worn - my only advice would be to take a friend with you and have a bit of fun - my friend took pictures on her phone so I could look back at them to remind what each one looked like and that was really helpful.

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 12:34

Malt - the mouse had spent at least 24 hrs at the very top of my lounge curtains - between the curtain and the lining (maybe longer). I first noticed as the cats kept staring at it but they are a bit bonkers so I didn't twig at first.......until I heard the rustling Shock. We couldn't get it out so had to take the curtain down and DH had to crawl in between the fabric and lining to grab it but it escaped and we then had to re-capture it. Fortunately DH and DD are both quite happy to pick up mice so I only had to hold doors etc. Smile.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 19/09/2013 12:36

Hi all, just popping on to wave. Sorry I'm not really able to reply to anyone's posts. I have my genetics appointment in an hour and I am absolutely terrified. They know I definitely have one of the conditions so there's no chance of good news as such, just hopefully less bad news. Any good vibes or finger crossings or anything you can muster would be so appreciated. Take care and I will try and check back in later x

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 12:36

HND - i do hope you have finally got that wound sorted - hard to believe you original op was in Jan. Very dramatic to 'burst' at the airport!! - it seems we are having a week of dramas this week.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 19/09/2013 12:48

Something I wasn't expecting. I thought I'd share it.

There are 4 silver linings as a result of this cancer for me. (Note: I've signed off work on medical leave.)

  1. My stress levels have dropped significantly. Can you believe that??
I loved my job, but the juggle of work and kids was tough. I lived on adrenaline. (Which probably contributed to my cancer) And I traveled a fair bit.
  1. I am enjoying the extra time with my children. Made all the better by being less stressed. I'm a nicer and calmer mom (for now anyway!).
  1. My social life has never been better! I have become a lady who lunches. And I'm spending hours on the phone on 'social' calls.
  1. People are so kind and supportive. Its embarrassing sometimes... But family, friends, colleagues, school moms have rallied behind me, and are giving me a huge lift. A crises shows many people at their best.

I'll try to hang on to this though as I go through chemo.
And I guess I really need to reassess my priorities once I'm recovered...

smee · 19/09/2013 12:50

Hiding from Betsy until the steroids are done.. Grin

Did you sleep through again, Ruby?? Hope you did. Smile

665, hello! I had a fine needle biopsy in the morning and results in the afternoon, so was told same day it was definitely cancer. Bigger biopsy followed and I had to wait about 5 days for those results. I'd guess they'll give you a v.good idea at least at the actual biopsy. Ask us anything and let us distract you while you wait.

Yikes, Trice, lung fusion doesn't sound much fun. Though does sound essential. Do they really just use Talc?! Shock I agree with the others, if Onc is suggesting it it's not immoral. Stagger and wheeze more and get it done.

Kitkat, I had a mouse trauma too. 3am and the cat decides to bring me a present.. Hmm White Stuff Parka sounds good. Smile

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit more perky, MAS. Maybe you should halve your number of lengths tomorrow? I need to ask you about goggles. Mine keep misting up. Do yours and if not what make?? or maybe I just have a weirdly shaped head

HND Shock. No sneezing for you then. Blimey that's been a saga.. Did the surgeon seem surprised it had burst open??

Mum, i'd wait on the gym membership too. On wigs, take a best friend with you if you can. You need someone you trust who's objective.

Kitkat, ask your GP if you're allowed a 'free' gym membership. Some local authorities pay or subsidise for cancer patients. Mine don't, but it's worth an ask.

Missed lots of you I know. There are so many on here now. Waving to all. Had better get on and do some more work. Raining here..

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2013 13:03

am holding your hand right now dear ruby
smee will try not to be so competitive with myself (plus friend has told me that she does 70 in 45 mins and I feel bound to do as well- can't help myself !) My goggles are pretty good and seal nicely- no serious steaming up and no leaking -they are Zoggs...will try to link to them...
