GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 19/09/2013 13:08

Thank you so much. I'm so tempted to run away! Which is ridiculous. And this sounds even more ridiculous and like the plot of a cheesy film... I found a US quarter in the washing machine just now (?!) which says "in God we trust" on the back, so I'm taking that as a sign, I'm trying very hard to have a bit of faith, maybe not in God as I'm struggling to believe in him/it/whatever right now, but in the fact that whatever they tell me, I will cope, because I have to.

BetsyBoop · 19/09/2013 13:10

Just popping in before I head out to be poisoned. I much admit to being more anxious this time than I was for the first one :(. My lovely friend and next door neighbour is taking me, so she will boot me through the door if necessary Grin will report back later...

ruby loads of positive vibes heading your way and fingers and toes crossed for the best possible result. We will be here with Brew and when you get back :)

hnd bugger re that damn wound healing, please for the love of God let it be sorted this time!

mom - not done wigs so can't help there. I'd be tempted to put your gym membership on hold for a month initially and wait and see how you fair on chemo. Fingers crossed you won't have too many SEs but if you do get a rough ride the gym will be the last thing you feel like for at least half of each cycle.

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 13:15

MAS - parka is here and is still lovely (very soft and warm) except with a bandana it does it look like I'm channelling the lesbian social worker look Wink. Very impressed with delivery - ordered it yesterday was free 3 to 5 day delivery and I got it today and had a text telling what time it would be delivered.

Mum - much as my DCs were gutted that we had to cancel our summer holiday they have loved having me home and not having to be in clubs all the time. They also like that I am home when they get in from school and we are all eating better meals. My social live has also improved - I have never 'lunched' so much before!! I am still working but only part-time and from home so i just fit a few hours in each day to keep things ticking over.

Smee - I wondered about the gym membership but couldn't find anything on our concil website. Now I've decided to have more chemo i think I'll wait a bit anyway but DH has a memebership at a very low rate so he is going to see if I can have the same deal.

Amber - have you got any stats on having rads (after mx for grade 2 cancer with largest tumour being 1.3mm and not within 5mm of the edge of the DCIS)? My onc is wondering if I need rads (he's off to speak to his radiologist) but actually if i don't have them I can have my reconstruction sooner and it will be easier to do so I'd be quite keen to skip them if no risk. I'm sure he'll have all the info for me next week but I like to be prepared.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2013 13:19

our sports centre does a deal for people with a doctor's recommendation...am not sure whether it would cover swimming-might need to ask as it gets a bit expensive if we go twice a week or more often
Hang on to your lucky coin ruby xxxx

HerNextDoorAt21 · 19/09/2013 13:21

ruby all the luck in the world lovely lady. I have everything crossed for you.

HerNextDoorAt21 · 19/09/2013 13:24

I seem to have made my bursting story look a bit overdramatic ! It was about a three quarter inch long opening and was bleeding quite a lot. I had been very good in Derby and sat on butt for the weekend ..... I asked what had happened and the surgeon didn't know ..... It was internal sutures so who knows ! Nos have a lovely bright blue exit suture !

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 13:41

Good luck Ruby - hope it goes well

smee · 19/09/2013 13:47

smee · 19/09/2013 13:48

MAS, cool googles! I think I need some.. Grin

malteserzz · 19/09/2013 13:51

Good luck ruby ! x x
Mom of 2 you have a great attitude, I can't see one positive about this I miss my old life so much. I can't work ( teacher ) so I'm bored. Love my holidays and have had to cancel 2. Hate it all !
Regarding wigs try lots on and get the best you can afford they are very realistic these days. Are you booked on a look good feel better session ? If not I would they are brilliant

malteserzz · 19/09/2013 13:52

Meant to say good luck to Betsy too hope it goes smoothly x

foofooyeah · 19/09/2013 14:15

Mum of 2. I agree with you. I have worked full time for 29 years, juggling that and home and financial difficulties has been hard. I am a v positive person and always seemed to be coping but think that he underlying stress ciould have contributed.
I have loved being off work, don't miss it at all. Have developed a slower way of life which suits me. My younger son of9 loved having me home in the summer holidays and not having to do clubs etc.
I have made new friendships and seen friends I haven't seen for ages as never had the time.
I am a stronger person and won't put up with DPs silly ways anymore. Used to agree with things as easier but am no longer a walk over. He just has to lump it, but he is much nicer to me too.

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 14:26

foo - my chemo nurse said that stress is the only risk factor that I have (job was v stressful at time of diagnosis plus all the juggling of childcare etc.). As my treatment is private she tends to see mainly working women and told me that it is not unusal for them to choose not to go back to their jobs once treatment is over because of the stress factor.
The other benefit for us as a family is that as I am home all the time we are getting loads of jobs round the house done as i am able to arrange various trades people etc. I appreciate that I am very lucky to be off on full pay and in fact have no travel costs so am better off then when I was working so can afford to get things done.
I think I will find it very hard to go back full time Sad but my role is not one that can be done part time and I do love it (stress and all).

foofooyeah · 19/09/2013 14:32

That's interesting kitkat. I have no family history but am overweight. I am going to struggle to go back, will have to do some part time hours in a month for financial reasons, but am going to insist its not my normal role but just some ad hoc work.

I too have got tasks at home done, have the plumber coming round soon to fix the shower - which sounds like a plot time from a bad porno movie. I'm going to get the giggles when he gets here.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 19/09/2013 14:39

I'm back. All your good vibes and the lucky coin must've worked Wink it was about the least bad news it could be, I think. I definitely have FAP. It is caused by a single genetic mutation but it can be anywhere in the gene, and where it is determines how likely it is to get the different weird things. Thankfully because of where my mutation is, I'm at a very low risk of brain tumours! :) there are various other things but I'm trying not to think about them all especially after I just Googled one and ended up on Wikipedia. Will I never learn?! Hmm

The quarter is less mysterious than I had hoped. I found it in the machine when I got my parents' bedding out but it turns out my dad forget to take it out of his shirt pocket which he put in the previous load. Hmph :) I thought it was some kind of sign from heaven or something Blush and it reminded me of Kris Kringle's trial in Miracle on 34th Street BlushBlush even so, it did cheer me up, which I suppose is all that matters!

I hope you're all having a good day and I will catch up properly later, we are off to town to celebrate :) x

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 14:40

foo - I am not overwieght and do not smoke or drink and did do some exercise.

I am only doing parts of my previous role at the moment - work let me choose what I wanted to do. I am not doing any on-call which was a particular point of stress for me and when I go back I will be aiming to not do this again. Under the Equality act 2010 your employees have to make necessary adjustments so it's my aim to get a role without on-call.

kitkat1967 · 19/09/2013 14:43

Well done Ruby - it sounds as positive as it could have been. Enjoy your celebrating Wine

malteserzz · 19/09/2013 14:47

That is great Ruby enjoy celebrating Smile your new life starts now really pleased for you x x

foofooyeah · 19/09/2013 14:52

ruby excuse my ignorance but what is FAP? Glad it is the least bad news.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2013 14:54

hooray ruby -that sounds like relatively good news i think ? xxxx

smee · 19/09/2013 15:05

Yay for Ruby!! Smile Smile
