Gastro intestinal infection - will it clear up by itself?

Three weeks ago after a meal of mussels and John Dory fillets in Montenegro, I came down with diarrhoea which eased (though was not completely resolved) after a day or so but then returned with a vengeance a week later. After 2-3 days of dreadful diarrhoea I took a couple of Immodium which stopped it for 24hours after which it has been steadily getting better.
Today I have had my first "normal" poo but even though it was quite large it floated, I've checked dr google and it seems to be nothing to worry about but can be a sign of a gastrointestinal infection which I presumably picked up on holiday. My question is do I need to see a dr or will I be able to get rid of it myself? I even have a poo pot from the dr for a sample but really would prefer to think I can clear it myself - I've got this far!

Annoyingly, despite the fact that I'm clearly not absorbing food properly still and that for several days no food stayed in me for more than 20 minutes, I have not lost any weight - so unfair!!!
