How long for "unexplained" swelling and pain take to go down in foot/ankle/ leg

This is about my mum but I could really do with some advice for us please.

She is a 74 year old with health issues including Angina ,blood pressure and stuff(might be relevant).

Last Saturday she went out with her friend for the day doing lots of walking and wearing trainers that she hardly ever wears so possibly her gait was altered...but by Tuesday her left foot/toes/ankle and calf were swollen and sore.

I saw it quickly and thought it felt hot and slighly red and ??hard?

As she had had an angina attack a few weeks before and had had her meds changed I called OOH for her ...but I could not stay for them .

Anyhow she cancelled it after 3 hours .............(too long a story to explain Grin )

She went to MI yesterday triage nurse said xray ok no fracture......mum rings me and say s she is fine ??

Hard to explain it in my post but my mum is the sort to say thank you when she knew on fracture and walk/hobble out as she would not ask questions "or like to waste peoples time " as she is not fine !

Really sore today and swollen ...in fact she took a pain killer which is unheard of for her !

Nurse said rest and elevate it and no more

She went to the chemist and got some Deep heat (?? can you use that for swelling) and support bandage that pharmisist (sp) advised.

I have TOLD her to go to GP tommorow but she keeps saying ....."nurse said I am fine"
.....but she keeps telling me how sore and swollen it is

I am starting to lose my patience with her

Could walking funny/different shoes cause this much discomfort after nearly a week.

TIA

BTW I thought blood clot as well ...but with no further tests nurse dismissed it...prob cos mum did not understand the questions or lied about her symptoms ? No scan was done

Someone I know fit and healthy running marathons didn't break in new running shoes properly and suffered for it so your mum with her health could have easily overdone things.

Currently her movement will be impaired and she'll end up putting weight on her other leg to compensate which in turn will affect her 'good' side. Has she been resting it?

For the sake of her circulation get her to her GP.

If it was my Mum I think I would call her GP and have a chat.
