Daily contact lenses - recommendations for online supplier?

My DS aged 16 has just had a few appointments with our local opticians to trial contact lenses. All has gone well and he's happy with the dailies that have been recommended, but I'm not so happy with the cost that I have been quoted - £46 for pack of 30 (both eyes). Unfortunately they don't offer any direct debit discounted option so I've had a quick look online (vision direct) and see that prices are LOADS lower (same brand/spec) and with discounts for bulk buys.

Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations for reliable online supplier, but also (more importantly) a degree of confidence that this is a SAFE alternative?

Would be grateful to hear other users' experiences.

I would of course make sure my DS has regular check ups :-)

I have used Get Lenses

My optician does a contact check but says she can't buy contacts cheaper than online so she has no problem with people ordering online

Thanks for the tip sashh (and reassurance)

I just used these people:

www.feelgoodcontacts.com/?clickid=0R-WaL2T9We22tC2Foy0h3XOUkWT0RzQ2y%3ANXI0&irpid=10010&afl=qdc

and they were very prompt, no complaints whatsoever. Plus if you go through Quidco you get 5% cashback. Grin

I get mine from Asda online.

Bosh and Laum daily disposables, £15 for 30 pairs. Free postage if you spend over - um can't remember exactly amount, but I usually buy 90 days at a time and that's free postage.

They are not allowed to dispense until they have checked with your optician, and they will not sell you lenses past your annual check date until they have phoned your optician and confirmed that you have had a check.

It's all tightly regulated.

mawbroom is right about the regulation. Some companies get round it by operating outside the UK.

I've used vision direct for about 10 years. Never had a problem. Do make sure a contact lense check up and fit is done regularly. Most opticians do it for £40 ish. Still works out much cheaper.

Thanks everyone!

Do they have to be daily ones? Monthly ones are easy to keep clean and if you get them from specsavers for £13 a month it includes solutions, half price complete glasses and all checks. For me this is the cheapest deal considering the perks.
