Tramadol - is this what it normally feels like?

Like being very very drunk and spacey?

Three days before the summer holidays started I did something to my back. Previously it has gone roughly every six months and lasts for three or four days which I pretty much just get through, but this was a different kettle of fish.

So the dr prescribed naproxen, co-codamol and diazepam - and I have been to the osteopath 8 times in 5 weeks. It isn't getting better this time, and the co-codamol wasn't helping the pain, and the diazepam just made me too sleepy (dh working away in Oz, family 100 miles away).

I went to see the gp yesterday (first time since I did it) and she told me to try tramadol up to 400mg a day, starting with 100mg last night. And last night although not pain less it helped and I didn't feel strange at all. This morning I took the same dose and even now I feel strange.

It is a bit weird, like dizzy, and I am aware that I am still in pain but holding myself differently. :( god this is shit.

Is this normal for the first few days? Will it calm down again? If it doesn't I will have to come off it as I need to be able to drive.

There's no way I could leave the house let alone drive!

They made me feel high, I was on them for gallstone pain and I had to carefully plan when I took them so I had nothing to do after it, I either felt really spaced out or went straight to sleep. I was taking them for about a year and it was the same the whole time I took them so ime it didn't calm down at all.

yes, pretty much. knocked me right out. I had it for my stitches, was so knocked out (and tired) I even slept through brand new baby screaming right next to me once, DH had to shake me awake to feed her.

I was very spaced out and hyper on Tramadol plus loads of other side effects such as nausea, itching, insomnia etc.. The feeling of being spaced out and hyper did settle after a while but the other side effects never went away plus painwise, they took the edge off all but the worst pain which is when I really need something... I'm now currently trying to find a painkiller that works without the horrible side-effects (might be a pie-in-the-sky ideal though)..

They make me feel like I am in a trance.

I am severely allergic to Tramadol it made me extremely ill after just 3 tablets (as well as spaced out and sleepy). I hope you feel better soon.

I have a similar cocktail of drugs plus more. When I first had tramadol it had a really dramatic effect and made me utterly spacey. However this has improved and it still works.

I still wouldn't go out or drive though.

More to the point, though is what is your GP doing to get you a diagnosis? 8 weeks on all these drugs plus all that osteopathy...you need investigation. Pref an MRI. I would actually be cautious about the osteo if nt helping by now.

I strongly recommend a trip back to the dr. If you have private healthcare or spare cash now could be a good time to use it.

Huge sympathy from a fellow sufferer. There seem to be a lot of us on here right now.

I was in a terrible state after taking tramadol. I felt faint, dizzy, sick. I had to crawl up the stairs as I couldn't walk properly and was sick a number of times. I will never take the stuff again.
