Third Nipple

My baby boy has what at first looked like a birthmark along his lower ribline, but it now looks like nipple type tissue.
Is this a third nipple?
If so, is it advisable to have it removed while he is young and can heal better or should I leave that up to him
(maybe it will become the source of his powers or something a la chandler in friends?)

No help but I'm PMSL at your name...

WigWamBam · 19/06/2006 11:47

It might be a supernumary nipple - but really, unless it's large or catches on his clothes, it's unlikely to be a problem (I have one, and no-one's actually noticed it - even my dh!).

Bl**dy hell, I hadn't even noticed the name! Will join SD in PMSL ...

titneyspears · 19/06/2006 11:50

Ha thanks, it was hard to pick a name!

Sums me up right now though, my tits seem to be what the world revolves around.

Wigwambam, it is very small, and really only looks like a birthmark.
Don't worry, I don't have a plastic surgeon on speed dial to whip it off. If it doesn't bother him it don't bother me!

I wouldn't bother having it removed in that case. Mine just looks like a mole with a slightly raised centre, although in some cases they do look much more like nipples.

He can always have it removed when he's older, if it starts to be a problem to him or if it gets bigger and more noticeable.

My DS1 (age nearly 14) has one. It's not a full nipple.. it looks a bit like a scar. I didn't know it was one until one of his consultants (he has cystic fibrosis) commented on it during an examination. He actually has the very beginnings of a FOURTH one as well under his other proper nipple.

They are no problem at all. He isn't embarassed about it and it doesn't look like a nipple at first glance. When the doctor mentioned it I said 'Oh well his dad has one then! I just never knew what it was before and don't think he does!" I had great pleasure at pointing out exH's third nipple to him when I saw him next, lol.

my ds has one about and inch down from his right nipple, again it looks like a scar. He had chicken pox last year and now has a scar an inch down fom his left nipple! There was a thread a while ago - I'll see if I can find it.

babyonboard · 19/06/2006 16:06

Smile thanks

babyonboard · 19/06/2006 16:07

This thread is great..my ds has a third nipple..well we think!
It is just below his left nipple, dp is worried bout it, god knows why.

spacecadet · 19/06/2006 16:08

my dd has one, she is 14, she was very worried that it may develop more when she reached puberty but it didnt.
as a general rule, they dont usually develop much, so look more like spots etc.

babyonboard · 19/06/2006 16:14

Really, my ds's is just like 'titney' says, a small blemish, but his has a raised bit on it, it has grown a lot over the last couple of months too

Resurrecting a zombie thread. How do you tell your child about the third nipple so that it doesn't shake his confidence? I want a Harry Styles attitude

Whathefisgoingon · 24/07/2021 12:42

I’ve got one! I don’t care about it.
