Tocix shock syndrome and tampons

Hello, i had a serious casr of TSS when i was 17. As a result of tampon use - had used a pad overnight and a tampon first thing. Was being violently sick by 10am, hospitalised for two weeks....

So, since then, almost 20 yrs i have rarely used them. But i have had many years on the pill with light short periods, and seven years on the jab withno periods. I am off all contraception now and good grief my periods are horrid!! Not long but heavy and i am really struggling with pads. Its also like being 13 again and feeling very concious of the rustley noise that the pads seem to make!

Any advice about tampon use and the possible risk of TSS again?

Natracare brand tampons are made from 100% cotton as opposed to other brands which contain man made fibres. The man made fibres are thought to create conditions which can lead to tss, whereas cotton ones do not, I read a while ago.
F
if you go on the natracare website they have a section on tss which is quite helpful.

I always use their products now as I dont like having anything unnatural round my lady bits and have always been a bit fearful of tss.

sorry I can't do links but the website is natracare.com

have you considered a menstrual cup? very comfortable and I dobtbelieve there is a link to tss.

Thanks, i will look up natracare. I really don't fancy a cup...don't know anyone who uses them and worry about needing to empty at work!

Would you consider a menstral cup?
No evidence of being associated with TSS, but back on the interal protection.
I have a me luna from here

Have a read around.

Indith can type faster!
Don't worry about work, I only need to empty once during work hours on the first day or two, after that before and after work if fine.

How do you know what sanitary protection other use??

Indith · 02/09/2013 17:50

There are always cloth pads. Much more comfortable than paper ones. When I use paper pads I get a dragging, aching feeling in my vulva/labia but if I use a cup or cloth I don't at all.
